The OneRoof listing for 9 Fontana Street, in Papamoa, said Tui designed the house with outdoor living in mind.

She opted to do away with a bedroom so she could have more room to practise rugby outside, EVES agent Rachel Martin said in her listing.

Almost two-thirds of the 308sqm property is backyard.

“Ruby’s design prioritises outdoor living by omitting a third bedroom, resulting in one of the largest yards on the street, perfect for kicking the ball around, al fresco living or space for the fur babies to run amok,” the listing added.

OneRoof data shows the property, which is in the growing subdivision of Terrace Views, was built in 2020 and has a CV of $695,0000. The home is for sale by negotiation and is pitched at first-home buyers.

Tui recently told Woman's Day that she was at a crossroads in her career – and her personal life.

She told the magazine she wanted to find a new home for her and her much-loved cat, Manawa, named after the Chiefs Manawa team she plays for in Super Rugby Aupiki.

“I’ve figured out Auckland is a bit busy for me [and] my hometown, Greymouth, is too far away.

“My mum’s in Nelson and I like to go down there sometimes to get away. But I’ve really loved my time playing for Counties Manukau, so I’m looking to base myself somewhere between Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland.”

She said she wanted to be close to her Black Ferns Sevens “sisters” based at Mount Maunganui. “I want to set up a house and really make it my home – a bit of land would be nice,” she said.

Tui is regarded as one of the world’s leading sevens players and was in the national rugby sevens team that won silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The 33-year-old also played in the Black Ferns team that won the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2022.

She is now gearing up for her second season with the Chiefs Manawa for the 2024 Super Rugby Aupiki season and told RNZ earlier this week that she had already started pre-season training for what was going to be a “ferocious” year.
