The Global Financial Crisis beginning in 2008 was the catalyst for the launch of this dynamic company. Director Stuart Shutt had founded Investor Homes in 2004 which provided home build services for investors, developers and first-time homebuilders. The company quickly grew and began featuring annually at the Master Builders House of the Year Awards until, in 2008, the market changed with the onset of the GFC and investors could no longer secure finance for building projects. Stuart seized the opportunity to offer a home build service to those who could still afford to build, and Sentinel Homes was established. The company has grown exponentially since its inception in 2009.

Today Sentinel Homes has franchise locations throughout the Upper North Island with over 90 homes in construction at any one time with roughly the same amount in pre-construction. Sentinel has shown consistency in standards and across different price brackets by winning multiple gold reserve medals in the Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards each year entered.
