- Art Rolfe
Commencing in Real Estate as a salesperson in 1973, Art qualified for his AREINZ in 1976, topping the Waikato in the Real Estate examinations in that year and winning the prestigious Stewart Boyes Prize for excellence. After a year's OE in England and Europe, Art returned to Hamilton in 1978 and started with Hamilton Realty, and as the story goes, liked it so much, he bought the company.
In the early 80s, it was fashionable, and advised, to use your own name on the company masthead, so the name was changed to A E Rolfe Realty, the business relocated from Victoria Street to Tristram Street, and a second office opened in Cambridge in 1985. By 1990, the franchises had come to town, and the Industry engrained 'Bums on seats' mentality as the only way to grow or protect market share began to take its toll, both on the many small agencies, and Salespersons incomes - that mentality continues today.
In 1991, Art merged his company with two other firms to form Ace Real Estate (1991) Ltd. and, as a Director and General Manager, grew the company to six offices and over 60 personnel. Art left the Hamilton operation in 2000, retaining ownership of, and managing the Cambridge Agency, Ace Real Estate, until selling the business in 2007.
