- Doug Smith
One of PGG Wrightson Real Estate Limited’s most successful salespeople, Doug has been a rural real estate consultant for more than 30 years, beginning his role with one of the company’s predecessors, Wrightson NMA.
Based on professionalism, detailed understanding of New Zealand agriculture, and a lifetime developing networks in the communities of rural Hawke’s Bay, he has consistently been among the 15 highest national real estate achievers for the company, and is one of four to gain “legend” status for turnover exceeding $50 million in one financial year.
He began working for Wrightson in 1980, selling farms from the start, as well as holding various responsibilities in finance and as branch manager. In 1994, he assumed a commission role, exclusively marketing rural property, which he has done ever since.
After leaving school in 1963, Doug became a shepherd, later farming the 800 hectare Te Manuiri Station in Central Hawke’s Bay, which is now farmed by his younger son. A serious horse accident curtailed Doug’s active farming career, prompting his move into service, sales and managerial roles.
