On a personal note, Elke has a creative, wonderful daughter and four stepchildren who are now grown adults. In addition to this, Elke and her husband, who is a decorator/painter, are also completing home renovations - they both enjoy adding their own creative flair into their home. The Whangarei community and all its inhabitants are of high importance to Elke who has been a long-term supporter of the SPCA and Ruakaka Dog Rescue. Not only has Elke rescued some fur babies of her own, but to show her ongoing support she donates goodies to them every Christmas and Easter, and food when she can throughout the year.
