With our borders set to reopen, hopefully, before too long now, people from other countries who’ve watched the kiwi team of five million taking on the virus will be keen to explore our special country.
Tourism-focused hubs such as Wanaka are preparing to spring back nimbly, offering a wealth of attractions and activities along with warm hospitality, so there’s never been a more exciting time to join the local community.
Alta Villas are situated in the popular Northlake development, fewer than 4km from Wanaka’s CBD and the lake.
This latest stage comprises 27 three and four-bedroom, two-bathroom plus powder room townhouses designed using the majestic mountains, lakes and blue skies which surround them for inspiration.

The three-bedroom townhouses are priced from $1.65 million, and the four-bedrooms from $1.69m. Bayleys, Wanaka agents Scott McGoun and Sharon Donnelly are marketing the properties.

The properties are constructed with sustainability in mind, using high-grade, quality materials, including rendered brick and timber weatherboards, while stylish powder-coated aluminium panels add extra sophistication.
Northlake’s village centre is the heart of the development providing a hub for residents who include a nice mix of young families, households with teens and older people, all enjoying a friendly laid-back lifestyle.
Monkey Farm Cafe and Eatery is always filled with happy chatter as neighbours catch up with each other and families can take advantage of Pinnacles Childcare Centre.
Northlake has a recreation reserve, as well as a basketball hoop, pump track and tennis courts and there’s a dedicated barbecue area.
The development enjoys easy access to the Clutha River and to the Mount Iron track.

Summer activities in the region include a multitude of waters sports including sailing and kayaking, and the skiing and snowboarding in winter is legendary.
Day trips to Queenstown, Arrowtown and Cromwell provide a change of scenery.
Duncan Elley, head of land development at Winton – the company behind Northlake, is feeling extremely upbeat about the future, despite wobbles in the property scene elsewhere in the country.
“As a company, we’ve weathered the upheaval of the last couple of years very well, in large part because of the strong relationships we have with our contractors and suppliers so people can be confident that we’ll deliver.
“The other attraction is the fact that all the glorious scenery around us isn’t going away – no matter what happens, and Wanaka is a very vibrant community with our wineries, breweries, plus all of our adventure sports and tourism is coming back.

“The Australians love us so they’ll be here, for sure as quickly as they can.”
Elley says that Alta Villas are a new product which will complement previously completed parts of the development.
“We’ve done stand-alone houses with big gardens and we’re currently finishing off our duplexes before we get started on Alta Villas, which are low-maintenance, lock-up-and-leave residences, with generous double garages for extra convenience.”
The wider Northlake development is still expanding and more retail and office units, plus services, such as hairdressers, will soon be in the mix.
Elley says that with over 500 properties already built at Northlake, things just keep getting better.
