Callum Webster thinks developers should take note of Peddle Thorpe’s Botanica, a new development in Mt Eden, central Auckland, where the design emphasis is on creating a connection with nature.

“This is a testament of how we can bring more people closer to the city while still enjoying ample space, greenery and privacy,” says Callum of the 15 dual-level terrace apartments.

“I have not seen any other developments in Auckland as unique and as well-thought-out as Botanica.”

Callum and his partner moved into the freehold property in February this year, after putting down a deposit in 2015.

“Being an off-plan development, it was great that we were able to secure the property with a 10 per cent deposit, giving us more time during the construction phase to save for the remainder,” he says.

“What we loved about the development was the extensive use of plants and trees, as well as the private terrace, a rare find in Auckland, especially so close to the city.

“Over time the growth of plants and trees will only add to the luscious green environment.”

Callum says the reason he and his partner went with Botanica was because of the “city fringe location, carpark and high standard on finishings”.

Their east-facing apartment is built of timber-pressed concrete and enjoys ample morning sun. There is a seamless indoor/outdoor flow, making it easy to relax at home or entertain.

“Unlike most apartment developments in Auckland, the large terrace allows for small pets to freely roam around during the day and a safe place for children to play,” says Callum.

The residents are a mix of young professionals, families and retired couples. They can use two entrances to get to their apartments, either from the landscaped community walkway or elevators from the basement carpark.

On the ground floor is the open plan kitchen, dining and living room, plus a powder room. The kitchen has Fisher & Paykel appliances, brushed nickel and chrome fittings and a freestanding timber and stone island.

A storage area is tucked under the staircase leading upstairs, where there are two decent-sized bedrooms (one is the master with en suite) and a guest bathroom with separate laundry.

“My favourite aspect is looking outside from the kitchen to the lush and green terrace. You really feel like you have your own city oasis,” says Callum.

There is a convenience store within the development, and the Bloc homeware store, Horse and Trap pub, and restaurants are all within walking distance.

“I love having everything so close, yet being able to retreat away at the end of the day on a quiet street,” says Callum.

But he is now selling.

“Another development on Eden Terrace caught my attention.”
