The houses that won previous seasons of The Block reaped big numbers when they went to auction but what are they worth now?
With the finale of The Block Season 7 little more than a week away, OneRoof decided to look at the estimated values of the Auckland properties that featured on previous seasons of the reality TV show.
Most of the winning homes have seen value growth since they first appeared on the show - the two exceptions being the houses that won Block seasons four and five.
The current estimated value of Brooke and Mitch’s winning villa from season four is sitting at roughly the same level it sold for three years ago, while the value of Sam and Emmett’s winning house from season five is significantly below the record-breaking price it achieved in 2016.

Brooke and Mitch’s Sandringham home achieved an auction sale price of $1.35 million in 2015 – $190,000 above the reserve – but now has an upper estimated value of $1.4 million on OneRoof.
Season five’s winning house, which broke the show’s record for sale price and profit, achieved $1.61 million in 2016 – $380,000 above the reserve – but its upper estimated value on OneRoof is $1.3 million.
Property Institute CEO Ashley Church says the fall in value can be attributed to the fact it was sold at the height of the market and the height of the show’s popularity – and that the fall isn’t too surprising or a cause for alarm.
“2016 was the peak of the market in Auckland, but we have entered a new phase and property values have started to flatten or grow at a much slower rate,” he says.
“The winning house from season five is actually in sync with house values in Meadowbank, with the latest figures showing a median value of $1.3 million for the suburb.”
Mr Church says the sale prices of the winning properties are a perfect snapshot of what was going on in the market at that time. “What makes data particularly interesting is that reflects the progress of a particular type of property over the years," he says.
The house that has seen the biggest growth between sale price and current estimated value is Caleb and Alice’s house from season two. That house in Belmont sold under the hammer for $1.126 million in 2013 and now has an upper estimated value of $1.8 million on OneRoof – a gap of $674,000.
The next strongest performer is Alex and Corban’s Pt Chev house from season three, which sold for $1.552 million in 2014 - $227,000 above the reserve. The house now has an upper estimated value of $2 million on OneRoof – up $448,000 on its sale price.
The winning house from last season’s Block, located in Northcote, sold for $1.25 million - $31,000 above the reserve – and now has an upper estimated value of $1.4 million on OneRoof – up $150,000 on its sale price.
The Takapuna houses from season one of the Block were later bought by developers and demolished to make way for a new six-storey apartment development.
This season of The Block is based in in the west Auckland suburb of Hobsonville, one of the city's newest and largest residential developments.
Located 23 kilometres from central Auckland it is popular with young families and professionals, thanks to its proximity to north-western shopping centres and short commuting distance to the CBD.
The current median value of the suburb as of July 31 is $922,800.
