The last time an extensive piece of New Zealand beachfront came to the market, Kiwis came together and collectively opened their wallets to save it for the nation.
The crowd-funding campaign to save Awaroa Inlet in Abel Tasman more than three years ago made international headlines and showed the love Kiwis have for their beaches.
Ray White agent Daniel Foote sees the similarities between Awaroa and the beachfront land he is marketing for sale by tender in Pataua North, in Northland.

"It’s not often that such a significant slice of waterfront land becomes available in such a pristine coastal area as Pataua North.
"This one has had families, friends and community groups talking, with our video of the beach already attracting more than 21,000 views."
Foote says the 9.64ha property at 1905 Pataua North Road, which is about 30km east of Whangarei, comes with consent to turn it into a campground.
"This property has all the ingredients for a classic Kiwi camp holiday: great sea and mountain views, flowering Pohutukawa, covenanted bush, pond and wetlands plus the orchard with its own coastal micro climate," he says.
He adds: "Pataua North is a popular seaside village in Whangarei Heads and is renowned for its beach, Pataua Mountain and fishing grounds."
Property values in Whangarei Heads rose steeply in 2018, with coastal suburbs generating keen interest among holiday home-buyers and those seeking coastal lifestyle options. "The positive market outlook for the region adds to the appeal of 1905 Pataua North Road as an investment prospect,” Foote says.
