Tom Cruise is reportedly scouting for a gorgeous Kiwi home, as plans emerge that the New Zealand Film Commission is hoping to entice him to make the next two Mission: Impossible movies in New Zealand.
The star has a long history with NZ. He came to Queenstown in 2016 to film scenes for the last entry in the series, Mission: Impossible Fallout, and stayed in Taranaki while filming the 2003 film The Last Samurai. And in 2013 he was rumoured to be looking for a home in the Far North.
If he buys, he'll be joining the likes of Titanic director James Cameron, tech billionaire Peter Thiel and former US TV host Matt Lauer, who have all snapped up Kiwi properties in the past decade.
So what would Cruise - a friend of former Team NZ skipper Grant Dalton - be looking for in a Kiwi home? Graham Wall agent Ollie Wall, who operates in the luxury market in NZ, says" "In our experience, film stars want much the same as wealthy Kiwis. They look for a quality finish that is close to a city but still offers privacy and a great view. We're currently actively looking for such stock in Herne Bay and Parnell, Auckland, for specific clients but these properties are few and far between."

You could run the whole empire from here – the apartment is like one giant toy set, with interchangeable furniture that converts from dining table to conference table, walls that slide to create new spaces, a catwalk that runs around the room, things that swivel and open – it could be a movie set in itself.
There’s a commercial kitchen and four metre bar to cater the best parties, and the master bedroom is a palatial 35 sq m. Add in mood lighting, a balcony for morning contemplation and a bathroom to die for, and your city pad is sorted.
