A Parnell villa bought by New Zealand’s first Filipino doctor in 1967 is back on the market after 52 years.
The three-bedroom 1890s home is being sold as a do-up that will appeal to serious renovators.
The home, which has a CV of $2.175 million, caught the eye of Dr Teodora Eugenio when she returned to work in New Zealand after post-graduate study in the US.
Dr Eugenio, now 90, says it will be sad to leave the house, but she’s ready to downsize.

“I hope new owners take good care of it,” she says.
She first came to New Zealand in 1954 to do a degree in medicine. After a spell in the US, she chose the Parnell home because it was close to the hospital.
“Everything was close by: the hospital, the shops, the church and it’s a nice and quiet street,” she says.
Unusual for the times, Dr Eugenio lived in the house by herself, with her niece proudly describing her aunt at the time as an “independent young woman”.
The 112sqm home, at 12 Stratford St, sits on a 505sqm section and is a rare undeveloped property in the high value suburb.
The home is to be auctioned on September 18.
OneRoof editor Owen Vaughan said: “Do-ups in Auckland’s inner suburbs have been known to command high prices. In March this year, a Freeman Bay villa in similar condition, but on a smaller section, sold for $1.6 million.
“Prices in the double grammar zone suburb, which has a median value of $1.255 million, have shown some growth in the last quarter, picking up 3 percent. The value is in the land in these heritage suburbs. Our data show that land value makes up 77 percent of the CV in Parnell. It's a valuable section in a desirable part of town.”
