If there was ever a contender for taking the title of Dunedin's highest residential sale price this year, it's this luxury mansion that wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi film or James Bond adventure.
The 500sq m three-bedroom, four-bathroom remodelled home sits on a massive 1968sq m section in the city's Waverley suburb, and has commanding views of the bay.
The property has a rating valuation of $1.53 million - $1.22 million of which is for the all-white home, a rarity for New Zealand where the land is usually the most expensive part of a house purchase.
With Dunedin's housing market surging it's possible the home will exceed the $1.625 million achieved by 14 Polwarth Road, Helensburgh, in November last year.

The house at 123 Doon St was bought by Aucklander Zhana Kirkland in 2017. “I always try to find something unusual in whatever I’m buying,” she says.
The exterior of the home was on the money but the interior needed work. It originally sported dark wallpaper, red carpeting and a lot of wooden details.
Zhana has replaced everything but the round windows. The walls were done with the waterproof white Italian plastering and the kitchen upstairs was modernised by installing red and white German fittings.
Upstairs she installed glass wall and ceiling in the bathroom. “There’s no one there to see you and because of the glass ceiling you can see the stars at night. Perfect with the glass of wine in hand,” she says.
The glass staircase connects to the downstairs bedroom with its own lounge with private access to the outdoors area and the pool.
After finishing the project, Zhana decided to move just next door to another unusual home built by the same people. “I don’t enjoy renovating but I enjoy seeing the results. I would have never achieved what I have if it wasn't for the people who got involved," she says.
The house, which is being marketed for sale by negotiation by Cutlers agent Heather Mclean, highlights the difference between the luxury markets Dunedin and Auckland - your millions go a lot further in Dunedin, with the highest sale price in Auckland in the last 12 months a high-end home in the beachside suburb of Saint Heliers which sold for $17.6 million.
