The tension will be building for All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen in November. As well as having a bit on his plate in Japan around November 2 - if the All Blacks make the final, that is - he and his wife Tash are also selling their lifestyle property on the outskirts of Christchurch the day before.
The luxury lifestyle property in Prebbleton, spreading over nearly 2.8 hectares, goes to auction November 1. Hansen, who has been wearing the brand ambassador hat for Ray White New Zealand since 2016, is marketing the property through the company’s Rolleston agents Brendan Shefford and Emma Langton-George.
The Hansens are selling their property to move on to the next stage in their lives, post Rugby World Cup.
“It’s well known that I’m moving on at the end of the Rugby World Cup after 16 years with the All Blacks and we’re starting a new stage in our lives,” Mr Hansen said.

“We’ve loved everything about our beautiful home over the last four years, however, we’re now preparing for the next phase of our lives after rugby. It’s as simple as that.”
As you’d expect for Hansen, there are a slew of award attached: the 520 sq m stone-trimmed house picked up a Master Builder gold award for new homes over $2 million in 2016, the kitchen also won a Master Builders’ Heart of the Home kitchen award and was highly commended in the Trend kitchen awards.
From the imposing entrance, double height stone with crafted cedar doors and picture window overlooking both the courtyard and entrance as well as the three water features, this house promises quality.
As well as that luxury kitchen, packed with Gaggenau and Miele appliances and a walk in fridge/cool room, there is a gorgeous outdoor kitchen in the covered living room. With a fireplace, room for a keg, and al fresco lounge, barbecue area is too modest a name for it. There are big screen televisions in both the outdoor living room and in the dedicated media room (which also has its own bar area), a landscaped pool and spa area and spreading grounds with pristine landscaping and water features.
Five bedrooms, three with luxurious en-suite bathrooms, welcome guests and family.
As well as the extensive garaging, the five bay shed has space for a gym and room for all the country boys’ toys. And it’s not just about good looks on the surface: the house has in-slab heating supplied by solar panels, there’s a ducted heat pump to keep the house cosy in chilly Canterbury winters.
“From the inside out, the property offers exceptional workmanship and meticulous design,” Ms Langton-George said.
“Prebbleton is sought after by people who are looking for a lifestyle that’s close to the city yet far enough away to switch off and relax.”
Just don’t expect to see Hansen at the open homes - he’s working on the win.
