It's not been a good week for Steve Hansen.

His lifestyle property on the outskirts of Christchurch passed at in auction today, a week after the All Blacks' devastating loss to England in the World Cup semi-final.

But there is hope. Ray White, which is marketing the property, said its agents were working with a number of buyers post auction.

"There's been tremendous interest in the property but it didn't sell at auction."

The luxury lifestyle property in Prebbleton, spreads over nearly 2.8 hectares. Hansen and his wife Tash are selling the property to move on to the next stage in their lives, post Rugby World Cup.

“It’s well known that I’m moving on at the end of the Rugby World Cup after 16 years with the All Blacks and we’re starting a new stage in our lives,” Mr Hansen said last month when the property went on the market.

“We’ve loved everything about our beautiful home over the last four years, however, we’re now preparing for the next phase of our lives after rugby. It’s as simple as that.”
