A heritage house on a multi-million dollar Takapuna site is on sale for the first time in 128 years.
With a Council Valuation of only $100,000, the Victorian six-bedroom family house is located on a 588sq m freehold land at 26 Killarney St, only blocks from one of the top beaches on Auckland's North Shore.
The property, which has a Heritage Category B protection, has a CV of over $2m and of which just $100,000 is the house value.
Constructed in 1890, in its early years it was a home to Pumphouse engineer Frank Moren. His daughter Hilda, and her husband Rudall Hayward, who is considered a pioneer in NZ film making, inherited it and then it was passed through the family says Kris Cunningham, of Harcourts in Milford who is auctioning the house on November 21.

“It’s never been sold through five generations, it’s rare to see a home passed on for two generations now,” he says.
Pumphouse engineer Frank Moren called this Killarney St property home in early 1900s.
The current owner has had the house for 30 years and she didn’t get married or had children to pass it to so she was selling it and moving to the USA, Cunningham says.
He says the house will be a project for new owners, as its category B protection means has to be kept on the Killarney St site with no major changes to be done to the building. The building has its original grand front door, bay windows and front verandah, while inside panelled ceilings, many sash windows and some of the six fireplaces are all orginal or later Victorian.
At the moment, the house is configured into a main home with four bedrooms, two living rooms, a bathrooms and a second flat with two attic bedrooms, two living areas (or a third bedroom) and a bathroom. It is currently tenanted.
Cunningham says the 270sq m property is a fantastic investment opportunity and that buyers who are showing interest are all keen to invest in the heritage project and make it flourish.
“It’s exciting that the people that are interested want to restore it and bring it back to its glory. It’ll be in good hands,” he says.
The house is located on a 588sq m of freehold land in the heart of Takapuna.
The house is next to school playgrounds, over the road from the lake, aquatic centre and Pump House.
This rare North Shore property could appeal to expats interested in historic family mansions in Auckland's premiere eastern suburb neighbourhoods.
Real estate agent Ollie Wall, who is marketing a 550 sq m mansion at 43 Arney Road with a big piece of land in Remuera, says that these classic heritage houses bring back childhood memories to potential buyers.
The six-bedroom Remuera home sparked a lot of interest from expats who are coming back home after decades of working overseas. “They are returning home from Hong Kong, Singapore, London and are now in their 40s and moving home with their young kids to give them what they had growing up,” he says.
Takapuna's heritage property has a dozen of eateries on its doorstep and has schools, public transport stops and a supermarket within walking distance.
