OneRoof.co.nz got the chance to look inside Auckland's most expensive house of 2019 when it was first listed.

10 Jackson Crescent, Mahurangi East, had an asking price of $14.75 million and while New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty, which marketed the property, wouldn't reveal the exact sale price, it confirmed it had easily beat the $12 million record set earlier this year.

"We were able to secure the perfect expat Kiwi buyer through a well-resourced international marketing campaign, achieving an excellent result very close to the vendor’s asking price. The two licensees involved, Athena Wang and Pru Foster did a fantastic job,” Sotheby's managing director Mark Harris told OneRoof.co.nz.

We've decided to republish our profile of 10 Jackson Crescent and our photographer's amazing pictures so you can see what it takes set records in the property market.

Few Kiwis would have seen the likes of a $14,750,000 palatial, resort-like bespoke home on a majestic cliff-top site which even wowed one of New Zealand’s top architects.

Architect Richard Priest of Hillary Priest Architects designed this 1039sqm luxurious residence with everything from a helicopter pad, entry reflection pools, a reinforced glass viewing window admiring a downstairs dining room-wine cellar and a circular home theatre.

He says: It’s a remarkable piece of land with spectacular views because it’s got the ocean to a 10-acre boundary and it’s cliff-top.”

Richard says its owners did not brief him with a laborious list of "must-haves", preferring to give him scope to exercise a strong creative vision.

"They only really asked for two things, an indoor swimming pool and a downstairs dining room-wine cellar."

The gated 5.67 hectare property sitting high on a promontory surrounded by beaches equates in size to more than five-and-a-half international sized rugby fields. That allows plenty of room for an additional separate multi-function garage capable of boat and helicopter parking, the heli-pad and a bountiful organic orchard and exotic gardens designed by Richard’s landscape designer wife Sue Curtling.

The media room is one of the highlights of 10 Jackson Crescent.

Richard says: "I was strongly influenced by the fact the owner really liked the simplicity of modernist style and the amazing views which look back to the city and all the way out to the islands."

The driveway curves around under the portico extension of the roof which stretches out to encompass the home’s triple garaging.

Richard says an initial wall prefacing an entry bridge crossing reflection pools aims to reinforce "the idea that when you arrive at your house you walk beyond the wall and into the sanctuary of your home".

The home’s exterior includes areas of schist, block-work and in-situ pre-cast concrete, topped with a low-pitch iron roof with deep eaves which almost feels like it’s floating above the home.

A sunken lounge luxuriant with NZ merino-silk carpet and fireplace opens on both sides to two expansive paved courtyard terraces offering shelter whatever the prevailing wind, both with outdoor fireplaces. A sumptuous expanse of living spreads across the seaward end of the home, unfurling a bespoke kitchen-dining room and an office encompassing an impressive floor-to-ceiling curved library.

No luxury home is complete without a pool.

Between these is a circular home theatre in which viewers are able to shut themselves off from the world by pulling dramatic gold and red velvet curtains. A reinforced glass window in this upper floor reveals a view down onto the extraordinary lower level formal dining room and wine cellar, superb for entertaining.

The master suite forms one of two sleeping wings directing your view back towards the city. There are four oversized double bedrooms in total, three in the other accommodation wing separated from the master wing by a stunning atrium garden.

All feature walk-through wardrobing and highly appointed ensuite bathrooms tiled with Bisazza glass and open onto timber verandas. Accommodation wing bedrooms include the New Zealand Room evoking forest ambiance, the contemporary Lips Room and the romantically luxurious Princess Room.

The living room has a lodge feel to it.

A 20-metre by 5-metre heated indoor pool has an adjoining gym area and bathroom.

The agents marketing the property, New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty's Athena Wang and Prudence Foster, are marketing 10 Jackson Crescent in Mahurangi East, Rodney.

They say: “From the moment we arrived at 10 Jackson Crescent we knew we were going to see an exceptional residence. The spectacular ocean views were simply captivating and the expansive breath-taking property was absolutely mesmerising.”
