Dennis Connor once inhabited this ninth-floor penthouse apartment for sale in a prime spot in downtown Auckland.
The America’s Cup legend was the first tenant when New Zealand was hosting the yachting competition in the 1990s, says a representative of the owners who preferred not to be named.
The owners have two apartments for sale in The Nautilus complex and both have been renovated throughout.
One of the best things about the penthouse — for sale by tender on December 12 — is the huge deck and the views to the harbour, says the representative.

“Dirty Dennis, as they called him, was running the Stars and Stripes campaign and he and his wife rented the apartment for the duration of that challenge.
“It’s got a very, very big deck, a huge deck. You do get quite a good view of the water and the harbour from there.”

Plus the apartment is north facing so gets all day sun.
“It’s two bedrooms, it’s quite spacious, two bathrooms, three toilets and a big open living area, and the huge deck — it’s ridiculously huge.
“It would probably suit either a professional couple living and working in the city, or maybe retired folk or semi-retired folk who don’t have families or young kids.
Or I suppose there are a few overseas people that like to have properties here that they come and stay at now and again.”
The apartment is also freehold, which the representative says is a plus in an area where a lot of properties are leasehold.
The location is fantastic as it’s walking distance to the harbour, Queen St, the Aotea Centre and the casino.
The top floor master bedroom has an en suite and walk-in wardrobe, plus a balcony.
Downstairs there is a large open area facing the water with doors out to the deck.
The second bedroom is downstairs, also with a walk in wardrobe and en suite.
The other apartment for sale is also two bedrooms and is on the seventh floor. It has a balcony and is in a quiet part of the building.

The representative says it is spacious and has been renovated to a similar standard as the penthouse.
While the building did have some leaky issues all the work is done, says the representative.
“That work has been completed and the building signed off by the council so it’s better than it originally was to be honest because it’s all been reclad and a lot of other work has been done.”
Agent Steve Kirk of Bayleys agrees, saying you can buy with confidence because council remediation requirements are extremely rigorous.
