Kiwi songwriter Neil Finn and his wife Sharon have paid more than NZ$7 million for a 98-year-old home in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Finns snapped up the four-bedroom, five-bathroom home for US$4.3 million from comedy writer Tom Long, best known for his work on The Simpsons and The Late Show with David Letterman.
It’s the second home the couple has bought in celebrity-friendly LA suburb of Los Feliz – they paid $2.7 million for a cottage there in 2018, the year Finn joined 70s rock band Fleetwood Mac.
The new purchase is described in the listing as a “Hamptons-style stunner”, pointing out the upstairs skylight, a “treetops covered balcony” and “sparkling Downtown views”.

It features a library, entertainer’s backyard with pool and a separate guesthouse.
Finn’s Los Feliz neighbours include actors Kristen Bell, Jon Hamm, Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie, who all own properties in the suburb.

The 1920s colonial style home has its own Hollywood history. One of its previous owners was Knocked Up actress Katherine Heigl, who paid US$2.55 million for the property in 2007 and then sold it six years later for US$2.622 million.
Gated and on a landscaped 800sqm, the home has been renovated over the years but still retains some of its original charm, including columns, crown moulding, panelled walls and French doors.
Finn has made LA his home since taking the place of original member Fleetwood Mac member Lindsey Buckingham, who was sacked in acrimonious circumstances. Finn has played with Fleetwood Mac in over 80 shows around the world.
Finn's previous home was a 120-year-old villa in the upmarket Auckland suburb of Parnell. That house, on Corunna Avenue, has a CV of NZ$6.3 million and was sold in 2015 for NZ$3.8 million.

Finn had lived in the property with his young family for 13 years, between 1993 and 2006. After that, he rented the property out.
The Parnell villa had a 480sq m recording studio, where Finn wrote and recorded some of his most famous songs, including Not the Girl You Think You Are, She Will Have Her Way, and Won't Give In.
