A luxury home in Auckland sold mere minutes before the city went into a level three lockdown.

The auction for 419A Riddell Road, in Glendowie, was brought forward after the Government announced on Tuesday night that new restrictions would come into effect as a result of new cases of Covid-19.

However, the house, which has a 2017 CV of $2.3 million, was withdrawn from auction after bidding reached $2.75 million.

Ray White agents Douglas Melville and Angela Kelland-Bridges, who were marketing the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house, said it was then sold 10 minutes before lockdown came into effect at 12pm.

The agents said the sale price was confidential but well above the highest bid.

The two-storey house has an outdoor pool and overlooks the harbour, offering views out to Waiheke Island.

Melville told OneRoof that the level three announcement did not affect the outcome of the sale.

"If there was no Covid announcement and we still had the auction on at 5pm, I'm confident the same person would have bought it for the same amount of money," he said.

Yesterday was Riddell Road's day in the sun. A neighbouring property at 407 Riddell Road sold under the hammer for $6.25 million – less than two hours before the lockdown.

The five-bedroom house, which was marketed for sale by Ray White Remuera agents Andrew Fava and Ross Tierney, sold for $1.35 million above CV after strong competition at the end from two bidders.
