A wealthy Aucklander's refurbished mansion on one of New Zealand’s most desirable streets is up for grabs.
The listing of 95 Victoria Avenue, in Remuera, Auckland, follows the sale of a number of homes in the top price bracket as ex-pat Kiwis eye luxury homes in the city.
The five-bedroom Edwardian-era home covers 880sqm of living over three floors, and that’s not counting the four-car garage, tennis court and swimming pool that sit on the 1981sqm section.
The vendor is a Kiwi rich-lister who wishes to remain private, but Bayleys agent Edward Pack, who is marketing the property by set sale closing October 7, was able to tell OneRoof that they had carried out substantial renovations since purchasing the home two years ago.

“Very rarely do these Remuera homes come on the market, and when they do, many of them may need millions spent on them, so to have one that has been renovated to such a high standard is unique.”

Pack said that the property would appeal as much to local buyers – who keep their eye on this market – as it would to ex-pats.
“This home will appeal to young families as much as for older families with teenagers. It will be attractive to a wide demographic.”
When the vendor bought the house in 2018 for $16.55 million, they called on noted Kiwi architect Christian Anderson, who specialises in luxury properties, to oversee a complete makeover of the house.

Pack said some of the new touches included an improved kitchen with added scullery; upgraded bedrooms and wardrobes; additional bathrooms; and full air-conditioning throughout the home.
There was a full transformation of the lower ground floor, where a basement space was turned into a state-of-the-art gym that Pack says rivals any in the city. Also on the floor is a large games and television room that opens to the swimming pool and garden area.

The gym has walk-in wardrobe, bathroom and sauna, while the games room has another bathroom. It was designed as a self-contained space for teenagers or for a nanny.
The main floor of the house has two studies, one a media room, as well as family and formal living and dining spaces.
While all the modern underpinnings are there, from electronic security and services, Anderson carefully preserved the original features of lead-light windows, panelled halls and stairs, doors and ceilings.

Pack won’t be drawn on price, but said astute buyers would be able to do the maths on what this property is now worth. He said the vendor had a country property and had been spending more time there as the family loves horses, and is very excited to be making the lifestyle change.
Despite Covid-19, the top-end of Auckland’s housing market has been humming. A Westmere home formerly owned by Kiwi film director Andrew Adamson recently sold to former All Black Ali Williams and billionaire Zuru Toys co-founder Anna Mowbray for a reported $23 million, while Delamore Lodge on Waiheke Island sold for around $10 million.
Other classic houses that have recently hit the market include 9 Fern Avenue, in Epsom, which has a CV of $10.5 million, and the picture-book 37 Claude Road, also Epsom, which is expected to sell for around $10 million.
