A spiritual mentor and her musician partner who were guided from a property in Auckland to a retreat in Tokaanu, south of Taupo, seven years are on the move again and waiting for the spirits to tell them where.

Annwyn Hanham said it hadn’t come as a surprise when a buyer was found for her and Raeul Pierard’s home after it had been on the market for four months as the spirits had already spoken to them.

“My partner and I, we operate very differently – we again followed our spiritual guidance and they just said ‘hang in there you’ve got a buyer coming and you will get your asking price’, which we did – well $10,000 off it.”

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom property, where the couple had previously hosted spiritual and mediation retreats and musical concerts, was on the market for $1.1 million – and sold for $1.09m.

The new owners had been looking for a property where the family could gather and the Humu Street property had reminded them of a home they had previously owned which had been in their family for a long time, Hanham said.

“It held a lot of sentimental value ... possibly it was a Victorian two-storey house with French doors, a veranda, and dormer windows, which our place is a little bit like because it’s based on a French country home.”

The new owners wanted it as their holiday home for the whole family to gather for celebrations and Christmases.

Hanham, who also writes spiritual books, said after OneRoof wrote about the retreat being for sale in May, they suddenly had nine people interested.

“Not everyone could line their ducks up, but virtually everyone who has been through this house has wanted to buy it.”

A lot of people loved that the home, which is on the edge of Tongariro National Park, had a stream running alongside the property and most wanted it as their permanent home and planned to rent out the wooden self-contained cabin on Airbnb, she said.

Settlement is not until January, which Hanham said would give her and Pierard time to work out their next move.

“It’s like the same thing – we were guided here and now we will wait until we are guided to our next step. What that will be, we don’t know,” she said.

“We are waiting for that to reveal itself and usually you don’t get shown that until you need to be shown and we don’t need that just yet as we are not going.”

Hanham said when they first listed the property there had been a lot of naysayers saying they would not sell a higher-end home in the middle of nowhere in a slow market - but she and Pierard stuck to their belief and understanding around how energy worked and knew it would.

“We love working this way. We like to do things differently and our guides told us we would have a very big-hearted woman who would help us sell us house and that was Jo Swanepoel from Ray White,” she said.

“It all just worked out. When we met her we thought oh my gosh, ‘you are the woman in our dreams we’ve heard about you already’.”

The couple is now looking forward to December when they will have lunch with the new owners and Swanepoel before handing the keys over and moving on to their next calling the following month.
