The Winters had bought the classic 1970s home overlooking the Waitemata Harbour in Auckland’s Te Atatu South, in 2021 for just under $2m and transformed it into a stylish family home.
Listing agent Hayley Kirk-Smith, from Bayleys, said the four-bedroom house, which made an appearance on the hit TV show Outrageous Fortune, had been popular with buyers, attracting more than 100 groups at the open homes.

“We had a really successful campaign over three weekends. We had 11 registered bidders at the auction, five of whom made bids,” she told OneRoof.
Many of those who had shown interest in the house were locals looking to upgrade, she said. “We also had people from further afield, from Mount Eden, Westmere and Point Chev.
“We had a range of families looking. Young families and families with children of different ages and stages. And we also had some downsizers. I think the proximity of the boat club was a real bonus for those people.”

She said there were no tears at the auction but the bidding action was strong and the buyers managed to get themselves into a leading position. “They were really excited, and they feel that this is going to be a wonderful family home for them.”
Kirk-Smith said the Winters were also pleased with the result. “It’s certainly up there with the best in Te Atatu South,” she said of the sale price.
The Winters made their name with fashion retailer La Tribe and Summer Supply. The couple told OneRoof last month they were expecting their third child, Kye, when they bought the house and embarked on a renovation.

Emma said that despite being nine months pregnant she relished the opportunity to reinvigorate the classic brick and cedar home.
“I enjoy the creative process so for me it was a dream project. I teamed up with a girlfriend I trusted [Toni Brandso from Material Creative] and we really put our mark on the house,” she said.
“We have so many things we juggle, so we wanted to make [the house] peaceful and relaxing – like a sanctuary. We went for creamy, earthy tones – a kind of monastery vibe. We used Marmorino lime wash plaster on the walls for texture and lots of wood and stone finishes for that grounded feeling.”
Functionality was also at the forefront of the Winters’ design. “There’s lots of storage. We’ve got a massive shoe cupboard – we are shoe people,” she said.
She added: “It’s always been that kind of house, once upon a time they used it for Westside and a couple of episodes of Outrageous Fortune. We definitely brought it out of the ‘70s but its character was there from the start.”
