When Genevieve was a child, Pauanui was her second home. When the opportunity arose to purchase a holiday home at the beachside community, it was a no-brainer to give her kids the same experience.

“I have so many happy memories from my childhood. Spending time on the beach, riding our bikes up and down the safe roads, entering sandcastle competitions – those really were quintessential Kiwi summers,” she recalls.

“When I was older and had my own kids, we rented a holiday home in Pauanui every summer. Then when the borders shut and we couldn’t travel overseas, we decided it was time to set down more permanent roots in Pauanui.”

Genevieve and her family were on holiday when 24 Glen Venus, Pauanui, came to market.

“We scootered down to take a look the day it was listed and we made an offer later that afternoon. It was meant to be.”

The four-bedroom, two-storey house is large, bright, open and private. Featuring double-height ceilings and a wraparound deck that spills onto the large flat lawn outside, the home has seen its fair share of summer barbecues over the years.

“It’s an amazing summer house because you can open the whole place up and basically live outdoors. But it’s equally amazing in winter with the heat pump and the wood fire – perfect for roasting marshmallows on.”

The home backs onto Gallagher Park and is only a few roads back from the beach.

The huge backyard has seen a lot of activity over the years.

“The kids have spent many hours playing cricket out the back or racing down slip and slides,” laughs Genevieve.

“I had my 40th birthday there too, with a food truck out the front and a big marquee out the back. It was wonderful to share this beautiful place with my nearest and dearest.”

Getting around Pauanui is effortless thanks to the location.

“We back onto Gallagher Park which is basically an extension of our backyard. Even though we’re a few roads back from the beach, it’s extremely close and we don’t have to cross any roads to get there thanks to the underpass.

“My 10-year-old loves the freedom of nipping down to the shops, and they all love riding down to the jetty and jumping off it.”

Richardsons agent Brenda Jenkins says: “You really couldn’t ask for a better summer holiday home ... this home really has it all.”

Genevieve and her family are only the second owners of this property which was built in the mid 1980s by a couple who retired there.

“They were avid gardeners which you can tell because trees can be hard to grow in the sandy soil but ours are thriving. There are still small depressions in the backyard where they grew special breeds of tomatoes – they were famous in Pauanui for their tomatoes.”

Richardsons agent Brenda Jenkins says 24 Glen Venus offers a wonderful blend of homestead and beachside living.

“You really couldn’t ask for a better summer holiday home. Plenty of space for family and friends, a huge lawn out the back for backyard cricket matches, easy access to the beach, unbeatable privacy – this home really has it all,” Brenda says.

For now, it’s time to bid farewell to Pauanui – but it won’t be for long.

“I’m a Pauanui diehard,” laughs Genevieve. “The area is really special to me – it’s my turangawaewae. It’s a magical place and the kids and I are really looking forward to spending our last summer at 24 Glen Venus.”
