Selling reluctantly because overseas business interests see him spending more time outside New Zealand, the owner of this special Mangakino property says there are many aspects he will miss when he leaves his unbeatable slice of paradise behind.
“Just securing the lakeside site back in 2016 was a triumph because they don’t come up very often, and I couldn’t wait to get building work underway,” he says.
“Because I travel internationally such a lot, I had loads of great ideas I wanted to include. Everything was done to the highest specs possible, and I threw my own personality into choosing the bold colours and materials that make the home really stand out.”
Set across two spectacular levels, the 315sqm dwelling enjoys mesmerising lake views - which change constantly throughout the seasons, and even during the day.

“I never get tired of gazing out at the spectacular sunrise on summer mornings and the soft fog that blankets the water on winter afternoons,” says the owner.
As a keen entertainer, he designed the house for maximum sociability: the top floor with an ultra-modern kitchen with high-end appliances - including an eye-catching hot pink Belling cooker, along with sprawling living areas both indoors, and out - on vast decks, is just perfect for any size of party.
A truly luxurious master suite, complete with ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, has automatic curtains that sweep open in the morning to reveal the view, then close the world away at night.
Also on this floor is a guest bedroom and guest bathroom, which enjoys cool, contemporary styling.

A completely self-contained three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment on the lower level would suit extended family, with its own entrance.
The décor is vibrant and fun, and the apartment has enjoyed considerable success as a holiday let, with visitors enjoying Mangakino’s pleasant lifestyle which includes fishing, boating, cycle trails and golf, as well as its warm community camaraderie.
“Honestly, this is just the nicest neighbourhood to be a part of,” says the owner.
“Where I was before, I was lucky if I could tell you the names of the people next door, but here, everybody looks out for each other and we’re all friends together.
“It’s a very uplifting place to live and has its own unique little sub-climate, with generally settled weather.”

RE/MAX agents Kath Shaw and Wendy Ploeg say that Mangakino enjoys a very central position.
It is in the “middle of everywhere”, approximately 40 minutes from Taupō Airport and a similar distance from Rotorua, while Auckland is only around 2.5 hours’ drive away.
“And you can be on the slopes for skiing in just over two hours,” adds Wendy.
“Kath and I have noticed a lot of interest from Auckland buyers. They want to leave the big smoke and buy something of superior quality, then relax and kick back and still have some change in their pockets.
“Our vendor is absolutely committed to selling this lovely home - which he’s justifiably very proud of, and he will meet the market,” she says.
36 Korari Crescent in Mangakino, Taupō, is on the market for sale by auction on April 24.
