Bayleys is launching its Auckland Metropolitan Markets team, designed to provide clients with a full range of services, coverage, and knowledge across office, retail, mixed-use and land assets.
With vendors, buyers and occupiers looking to turn the page on last year’s market uncertainty, extreme weather events and interest rate hikes, agents in the Auckland commercial real estate market are encouraged by robust inquiry levels, early indications of growth and the return of investors.
Lloyd Budd, executive director Bayleys Auckland Commercial and Industrial said the new Auckland Metro team is perfectly placed to service all commercial investors from those with diversified portfolios and complex needs, to smaller investors and owner-occupiers.
“Our clients will all benefit from the Auckland Metro team’s broad coverage and unbeatable, deal-driven insights, which are accessible through every member of the team,” he explained.

“Now, purchasers can deal with one agent when exploring a selection of properties for sale, while vendors will benefit from the combined pool of active purchasers held by the expanded team.
“Auckland Metro is another example of Bayleys’ Altogether Better strategic approach to real estate and by creating a single centre of service excellence, we not only streamline our clients’ interactions with Bayleys but also enhance the value they gain by dealing with us.”
The Auckland Metro team is headed by Alan Haydock, who brings 25 years of agency experience, over a billion dollars in commercial sales, and leadership skills to the task.
“Alan leads from the front,” said Budd. “He has mastered the art of bringing people together, mobilising their combined skills and creating a culture of delivering excellence.”
Haydock said harnessing the collective experience, knowledge and networks of Bayleys’ existing city and fringe specialist teams, and then weaving them into a powerhouse squad with deep reach and broad intel across asset classes is an exciting challenge.
“There’s tremendous upside to be unleashed and my mission is for the Auckland Metro team to deliver a truly bespoke service to our loyal client base of savvy and proactive investors, developers and owner-occupiers.
“By merging the teams, we create a multi-layered service offering with the client at the centre, and it helps us maintain a well-curated database of qualified purchasers.
“Knowledge is everything in our business and the merger makes intel sharing between agents more rapid and efficient.”
Another important aspect of creating the combined Auckland Metro team is the support it provides for young agents.
“Bayleys is an established New Zealand family-owned business and growing the next generation of high performing agents is a strategic priority,” said Haydock.
“I want Bayleys to be the company of choice for ambitious, young graduates who are keen on a successful career in commercial real estate.”
The Auckland Metro team already provides tailored mentoring between experienced brokers and young agents and according to Haydock, this personal connection ensures that everyone gets unbeatable on-the-job training, leadership experience and a touchpoint for market insights, which can be hard to come by when starting out.
“Lasting relationships are at the heart of our business,” Haydock explained. “Primarily with our clients, but also across the team.
“We see agency as a long-term partnership built on trust, excellence, and respect.”
Looking forward, Haydock sees success for its commercial real estate clients in 2024 being all about spotting the golden opportunities against a background of lingering market turmoil.
“The Auckland Metro team is perfectly placed to help investors find the right asset, be it a character building in Parnell; a retail unit on Ponsonby Road; development land in Grafton; or an office tower in the CBD.
“With New Zealand businesses now pivoting towards productivity, we are starting to see renewed investment in people and their workplaces and the team can assist in delivering 2024 strategic workplace plans, help to optimise property portfolios for growth, and uncover great development projects.”
The CBD and city fringe areas have benefitted from favourable zone overlays that have allowed greater intensification and development resulting in some standout buildings with corresponding strong tenant covenants and infrastructural advantages.
“We work closely with leading, innovative developers who are changing the city’s property landscape with accredited, world-class buildings championing design, amenity and new ways of working, and our team thrives on profiling stock in the central city and inner suburbs,” said Haydock.
“Bayleys brings some of the best stock to the market, across asset types and in all price brackets and the Auckland Metro team will work collaboratively to get results.”
