Being able to be closer to his family was a key motivator behind Nikko Boxall joining the Colliers Investment Sales team in Auckland.

Having spent the better part of the past 13 years away through studying and then playing professional football, he says now is the time to settle back in New Zealand.

Originally from Auckland, where he went to Mount Albert Grammar School, he attended Northwestern University in Illinois from 2011 to 2014 where he attained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics.

Playing as a defender, he turned out for professional teams in Germany, Finland, Denmark, the United States, and New Zealand, while also accumulating six caps for the All Whites, before a serious injury suffered at the end of last year forced him to think about his next career move.

He decided to develop an understanding of the property sector and after spending time examining his options around working in the residential or industrial sectors, the 32-year-old connected with the Colliers Investment Sales team and recently began as a Broker.

"I was keen to spend more time with my family in Auckland and it just felt like the right time to take a step back from playing football professionally and I am keen to make my mark at Colliers," Boxall says.

"I got a great impression from the people I met from Colliers and was impressed by the company culture and that really resonated with me. There is a good collection of people in the organisation and I am looking forward to learning from my colleagues and developing my career.

"There are a lot of parallels between professional sport and property such as discipline, perseverance, and working well within a team and hopefully those things will put me in a good position to succeed."

Boxall will focus on the southern fringe of the Auckland CBD and has received guidance from Associate Director of Investment Sales Ned Gow who has extensive experience in that area.

The Auckland Investment Sales team at Colliers specialises in the sales and leasing of commercial assets across the city and has a collection of highly experienced Brokers that have achieved considerable success in the property sector.

David Burley, Auckland Director of Investment Sales at Colliers, says he is confident that Boxall will be a great addition to the team.

"Nikko comes with a background of many years of playing professional football. The commitment, resilience, and dedication required to be a high-performing athlete will stand him in good stead for the challenges commercial property brokerage brings. It's these attributes which make us very excited about him joining the Auckland Investment Sales team."
