Owning a building company with numerous luxurious renovations in Birkenhead Point under its belt prompted Matt and Chrissy to do their own transformational rebuild in the area.

Matt says: “You can’t really see it from the road as it’s down a driveway so now it’s finished everyone says they don’t at first realise how spacious it is. We were previously living in Milford but fell in love with this area seeing how well it had developed while we undertook numerous projects around here. We’ve got a passion for buying places and reinventing them.”

This property’s wonderful privacy appealed, with trees and protected bush preventing anyone looking into it. The existing home they bought was a largely original 1990s cedar and block affair.

“The rebuild wasn’t initially going to be as extensive as it was but we decided to scale it up in keeping with the luxurious properties around here. We work in collaboration with a lot of interior designers on projects which helped inspire the finishes and products we wanted to use.”

“After working with the council’s heritage team it’s now a contemporary style villa which suits the area.”

A triple-sided gas fireplace with concrete hearth helps separate the dining and living area.

The couple moved into the 229sqm home in 2022 with their daughter, since joined by a baby brother. They can be in the CBD in 10 minutes and have local wine bars and restaurants, the Birkenhead ferry and Birkenhead Primary School just minutes away.

Open-plan living is on the lower of three levels, at eye level with the extensive north-facing deck and heated concrete pool-spa it flows out to.

“I love sitting out there at any time of day. We’ve got two wood pigeons that visit us every morning and we keep the pool heated to 32 degrees.”

A triple-sided gas fireplace with concrete hearth helps separate the dining and living area, alongside the gourmet kitchen. Custom-made tall double-glazed windows and doors flood this area and its oak floors with light.

The double oven-kitchen teams granite with copious storage and high-end appliances. Its wine fridge bolsters a second one in the wine cellar underneath the meticulously restored staircase, which has a ceiling height soaring to 9.5 metres.

A fourth bedroom, currently used as a playroom, bathroom and separate laundry complete this level. The next level includes the front door and the internal-access double garage.

Outside there’s off-street parking for another three cars, safely secured behind the automated front gate for this fully-fenced property.

Marble features in all bathrooms, including this level’s one, alongside two more bedrooms. The upper master suite with walk-in wardrobe, balcony and luxurious ensuite is pleasingly private.

The home’s top-of-the-line Control4 smart home system is simple to use. It enables you to do everything from remotely opening the front gate for a courier to turning on the fire before you return home.

Steps down from the deck and pool lead to level lawn, garden and a cubby house with swings and slides, particularly popular with their five-year-old daughter.

Another project beckons the couple.

Bayleys agent Libby Greenwood says: “You really need to views this totally rebuilt, north-facing family home in a private oasis to comprehend what a magnificent property this is.”
