It’s hard to imagine anywhere more tranquil than this wonderfully private and scenic Clevedon home, admiring the river and the sea, rolling hills, and distant islands.

Owner David bought this property in 2020, not long after relocating from Sydney to Auckland to take up a new position.

David says: “I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. The everchanging view was what most appealed.”

The home he’s shared with partner Kim sits not far from the mouth of the Wairoa River, delivering an outlook including river and sea views, the rolling hills of Duders Regional Park, out to distant Waiheke Island.

“If I’ve had a hard day at work I come home, walk out on the deck and am instantly relaxed. It’s wonderfully private and tranquil and we see stunning sunsets and can see storms rolling in from 20 minutes away. Along with only two other properties we’ve got access to the road that goes down to the river nearby, where there’s a little concrete jetty and beach. It’s a great place to launch a boat or a kayak.”

He’s the second owner of the 2019 177sqm contemporary home designed by Mackenzie Architecture. It combines a mono-pitched roof and over-height pitched ceilings with beautiful interior light and great indoor-outdoor flow to tiered north-facing decks admiring the views.

“It’s easy to live in and nicely laid out for entertaining.”

The property is 10 kilometres from Clevedon Village’s cafes, restaurants and farmers’ markets, art galleries and craft shops.

Decorative corten steel electric gates announce the 3761sqm property and a gravel driveway flanked by trees. This transitions into planting and a large concrete slab in front of the cedar-clad home, provided generous open-air parking.

David added the separate double garage nearby, incorporating a bedroom-sized room they’ve used as an office. Large steps lead up to the covered double-door entry and substantial foyer, introducing easy-care wood laminate flooring which continues into the open-plan area.

A striking pendant light features in the double-oven kitchen with Italian stone benchtops. A wall of sliding stackers opens up, creating flow out to two decks.

The first, covered one provides the outdoor kitchen facilities of a plumbed granite-topped island and a wood-fired pizza oven, while the lower uncovered one has glass balustrading. “We fed a gathering of about 60 people from that oven.”

The main bedroom has an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe; the second bedroom accompanies a family bathroom neighbouring the laundry.
