Rural and agribusiness expert Dean File has joined the Colliers Taranaki office as a dedicated Rural Sales Advisor as Colliers expands its rural presence across New Zealand.

File joins the thriving commercial property team in New Plymouth, which is led by director Benet Carroll, and brings a wealth of specialist rural experience to the role.

“I am hugely thrilled to have joined the Colliers team in Taranaki and it’s incredibly exciting to be able to work in a part of New Zealand that has such a prosperous rural sector,” File says.

“I have worked in the rural industry for a majority of my professional career, and I take great pride in helping and advising people with their farm or lifestyle property decisions.”

James Nilsson, National Director of Rural & Agribusiness at Colliers, says the addition of File ensures Colliers has the capacity to provide exceptional service for its clients in another key rural hub in New Zealand.

“Taranaki is one of New Zealand’s primary agriculture-producing regions – standing alongside Waikato, East Coast, Canterbury, and Southland,” Nilsson says.

“As such, Colliers Rural & Agribusiness is expanding its presence with local people to help locals profit from the best advice on selling rural property.

“Our expansion into the West Coast of the North Island is in line with our national growth strategy, and we look forward to developing strong relationships in the area.”

Nilsson says File is perfectly suited to grow Colliers’ rural presence in the region.

“Dean’s reputation as a straightforward, down to earth, and hardworking Broker, coupled with Colliers’ strong national and international brand, will ensure that we provide excellent support to all of our rural clients.

“Dean has an extensive network of contacts from all walks of life from sporting and community experiences across Taranaki, the lower North Island, and wider New Zealand.”

Born in Gisborne, File moved to Taranaki in the 1980s where he entered the dairy industry as well as a stint in the New Zealand Police, while remaining connected to the rural sector.

Agriculture eventually lured File back and he became a Livestock Buyer, setting up his own livestock company in the Horowhenua and Manawat? area, adding rural real estate sales to his business in 2008.

File and his wife, Lea, returned to Taranaki from Manawat? in 2018, which paved the way for the husband-and-wife team to join Colliers where Lea will work as Dean’s Executive Assistant.

Aside from his professional achievements, File has been extensively involved in sporting and community initiatives throughout the years and previously served as President of the Horowhenua Kapiti Rugby Union. He also received the Charles Monro Rugby Volunteer of the Year award at New Zealand Rugby’s national awards in 2014.

Richard Findlay, Managing Director at Colliers Wellington, says the addition of the Files to the Taranaki office has been warmly received.

“We are delighted to welcome Dean and Lea File to our Colliers Rural & Agribusiness team in the Taranaki Region,” Findlay says.

“It is a privilege to be building the Colliers brand and rural presence in the heart of Taranaki.”
