Is ‘deliciousness’ even a word? It may be what people experience when they have a mouthful of anything iced with one of Granny Delicious’ icing mixes or one of the brand’s cakes or mousses.

The founders’ five children and 10 grandchildren love the flavours, which is where the name came from: “Granny, it's delicious.”

Granny Delicious, which was launched nationally in 2016, is a 100 per cent New Zealand-made brand with 16 domestic and six commercial products, many of which are unique.

The domestic products were mainly created for home use by families, while the commercial products cater more towards business purposes, such as in restaurants, cafes and bakeries.

Owners Manish and Sheenal Kumar have appointed Jason Alexander of Link Business Brokers to market this opportunity.

This business would be right up your alley if you are a passionate home baker with a flair for marketing and distribution, or an existing FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) manufacturer who wants to add to or own their own national wholesale food brand. Maybe you’re a bakery shop or a grocery retailer, for whom this business will be a welcome addition to existing merchandise.

Granny Delicious is currently run from the vendors’ warehouse in South Auckland. However, an incoming purchaser can locate the business anywhere in New Zealand.

It could even be run from a home with spare rooms and a large double garage.

“The business has invested substantially into R&D of its products, with product development of over nine years in the making. The business is a supplier to major New Zealand supermarkets and also a bulk volume company. Therefore, all the hard work has been done.

“Plus, easy export to Australia is right on your doorstep,” Kumar says.

The owners are looking to focus on their core business and are keen to see this opportunity passed on to someone who will give it the nurturing it needs to grow.

“With the current staffing constraints that are well known to business owners all over New Zealand, this is a welcome opportunity to acquire. It would require no staff as all manufacturing has been outsourced via high-profile sub-contractors capable of very high volumes as required.

“As the brand grows, the owner can simply manage the client liaison, assembly of packaging and courier logistics,” Alexander says.

According to Kumar, the business has “comprehensive stock and packaging volumes ready to satisfy all orders from day one of ownership.”

The buyer will also acquire:

-All intellectual property including social media, websites, branding and trademark logos.

-All recipes including many certified gluten-free products in the range already developed, tried and tested.

-Long life testing for extended shelf life – many products last up to four years with no additives in the ingredients or the manufacturing process.

-A range of assets including professionally purpose-built show stands.

“We also deliver worldwide, with customers buying these products from all over the world. Our customers love our products,” Kumar says.

The current value of stock is approximately $185,000 and the asking price is $177,000.
