A rounded ceiling also had coloured glass inserts, which filled rooms with extra colour and natural light.
A monolithic dome is built as a one-piece with igloo being the earliest form of such construction.
Irvin says the architecture of this unusual Whanganui home was “a love or hate."
“It’s affordable and if you are looking for something that’s a bit quirky and different – this is it.”
Irvin had people contacting her interested in renting the property once its sold.
“It would make a fabulous Airbnb or a rental.”
The Springvale dome has sparked a lot of interest.
About 50 people came along to two open-home sessions since the start of August, Irvin says.
“People were honest, a lot of them said they would always drive past the place and wondered what it looked like inside. It’s definitely feeding their curiosity."
Irvin was working with three serious potential buyers.
“Rather than demolishing it, I hope that they [potential buyers] add their touches and style the retro home."
She admits the dome needs "a bit of TLC” but ensures it is a warm and “clever” building.
A concrete dome build built by architect Fritz Eisenhofer in Kapiti Coast was on sale for about $2 million in 2017.
