A 1920s building in Takapuna that used to house the automatic telephone exchange is on the market for sale with vacant possession.

Designed in 1918 but not completed until late 1924, the building was one of six Auckland telephone exchanges that were switched from manual to automatic in 1925.

The renovated property at Unit C 187 Hurstmere Road is being brought to auction October 14 by JLL sales agent Euan Stratton.

He says the sale provides a buyers the chance to secure an office space within a character building.

It is the first time the property has been on the market for more than 20 years, and it has already generated significant interest from owner-occupiers and add-value investors alike.
