“There’s always something happening on the harbour, both day and night,” says Bill who owns this grand and spacious home in quiet, sought-after, and tightly-held Stanley Point Road, along with his wife Barbara.
“We get yachts, cruise ships, the police launch, you name it. There’s never a dull moment and I can’t decide if I like it best at night, or during the day!”
73B Stanley Point Road, Devonport is 210sqm, set over two levels. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two garages.
It was constructed around 25 years ago, and Diana Murray from Harcourts, Devonport who is marketing the property with colleague Ian Cunliffe, says that it presents as being practically new.

“Yes, we’ve looked after it very well, but it’s actually low-maintenance as long as you keep on top of things,” says Bill. The magnificent entrance has soaring ceilings and the water views begin from there as your eye is drawn to the lounge, beyond.
Diana says the spacious entertainer’s kitchen with high quality appliances and loads of space opens to four different dining areas: two inside and two outside. There are ample living areas plus a family bathroom with a laundry cupboard and there is one generous double bedroom on this floor.
Upstairs with the very best views of all lies the master suite with a walk-in wardrobe and bathroom, and there’s a handy home office, along with a third bedroom.
What makes this house really stand out is the resort-like feel of its outdoor living areas. Well established palm trees and subtropical plantings make it feel as if you’re in Bali, or perhaps Fiji.
With its multiple outdoor spaces and paved courtyards at both front and rear, the home is ideal for family celebrations as people can easily move in and out as they mix and mingle.
Bill says that there are no lawns to mow, and he likes it that way.
“The garden is all quite easy-care and although the house is large, it still has a lock-up-and-leave quality.”
He and Barbara are on the move, with some regrets, as their two sons have relocated elsewhere in the North Island and the couple want to be close to their grandchildren. They’re moving to Taupo where their water views are of the lake, instead of a harbour.
Diana says that potential buyers are impressed by the property straight away.
“They especially appreciate the privacy factor, as this is the last in a group of four homes, all tucked neatly away.”
Bill adds that the street outside is never busy, because it comes to a dead end. “You only see traffic first thing in the morning and then at early evening for an hour or so.”
He and Barbara like to walk for 15 minutes to Devonport village for coffee and a spot of shopping.
“If I want to go over to the city I just jump on a ferry, because I’m over 65 so it’s free!”
The house is to be sold at auction on May 9.
