The moment you drive through the wrought-iron gates at 47 Sanctuary Drive in Glenbrook, Franklin, you know you’ve arrived at a very special property – especially if you love horses.

For Katie, Kim and their two daughters, horses are an integral part of their lives. It makes sense, then, that they live on a property that effortlessly blends their passion with their lifestyle.

“A year before this property went to market, we decided we were going to live here,” recalls Katie with a laugh.

“We used to ride here and use the facilities, and it was the kind of place we’d love to never have to leave. When we heard it was on the market, we absolutely had to have it. It was meant to be.”

That was three years ago. Since then, the horse-mad family has made the most of the spectacular property and its facilities.

“We currently have 12 horses and both girls are eventing. We also breed some horses. It’s wonderful to watch the girls engage with their horses and their passions whenever they want, from the comfort and accessibility of their own home.”

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom palatial house is luxurious and comfortable.

Beyond the majestic statue of Zeus, who was commissioned by the previous owner to protect all the horses on the property and all horses, is a palatial house that is equally luxurious and comfortable.

“It’s a big house but it doesn’t feel overwhelming because it’s built in a circle, so you don’t have to walk for miles to get around it,” says Katie.

“It’s very light and bright, and when we open the bifolds we’re basically living outside. It’s also incredibly warm; I don’t think we’ve used the heating once since we’ve been here.”

Interior living spaces spill outside to a solar-powered pool and Bali-inspired landscaping.

“We spend so much time in the pool all year round, and we often have friends over to enjoy it with us. The garden is constantly changing too. It could be orange one week then white or yellow the next, and the scented flowers are just amazing.”

The gated property even has horse-head emblems on the iron-wrought gates.

The 4.37-hectare property also has a three-car garage and a self-contained unit.

Next to the three-car garage, a self-contained unit is ideal for extended family, guests or another income stream. The giant Harrison Lane stables are about twice the size of a normal stable and have all the modcons (“and more!”) any horse lover could dream of.

Eighteen paddocks provide plenty of space for horses and other animals, while the floodlit arena offers plenty of training options.

Katie is quick to say that, while it is a horsey property, there’s so much more to it.

“This property is ideal for anyone looking for a lifestyle block to make their own, whether they have horses or not. For example, the previous owner used to build vintage tractors in the stable. You don’t need horses to get the most out of this property.”

It’s with a heavy heart that Katie and Kim have decided to move on.

“This property is almost an extension of our family. It really has been a privilege to live here.”
