Owner Andy was attracted to this property due to its striking architectural design with an industrial aesthetic and surprising sense of tranquillity, given its central location.

This is one of three homes architect Matt Pearson designed in a gated enclave at the end of the Maui Grove cul-de-sac, enjoying an outlook over the lushness of Newmarket Park.

Andy says: “Its modern, contemporary design, combined with the privacy and security it provides, made it the perfect fit for us.”

He bought the double grammar-zoned property in 2014, when his family was living in Hong Kong but moving back to Auckland, primarily for their children’s education.

“We were drawn to the home’s prime location, within walking distance to the train station and the vibrant Newmarket precinct. The proximity to essential amenities is fantastic.”

It is zoned for both Auckland Grammar and Epsom Girls Grammar, Remuera Intermediate and Newmarket School.

“Additionally, it’s within close reach of some of the region’s top private schools, including Kings School and Diocesan School, which our children attended. Westfield Newmarket shopping mall is just a 10-minute walk away, the Auckland Domain is also very nearby, and the CBD is within four kilometres, making it an ideal location for both leisure and work.”

Pearson’s own former home was one of the trio he designed here.

Andy’s residence, at 33 Maui Grove, in Remuera, is constructed of a robust blend of natural stack bonded concrete block, exposed post and beam steel framing and solid timber weatherboard exterior cladding.

“Visitors like the home’s somewhat raw, industrial aesthetic.”

He carpeted some of the extensive polished concrete flooring to prevent his young children slipping over. The garden is intentionally minimal, leaving plenty of time for outdoor entertaining on its expansive deck, with a north facing aspect capturing the sun.

Andy’s family travel frequently, appreciating the low-maintenance lock-up-and-leave living. Owning multiple luxury sports cars, he’s prized the three-car internal-access garaging.

The entry porch opens into a soaring three-storey void, highlighting the much admired industrial-inspired staircase. An expansive open-plan entertainers’ kitchen with scullery-dining-family room opens wide to the large main deck, blurring the distinction between inside and out.

Andy says: “With its open-plan nature, flowing out to the deck it’s great for socialising, including large-scale gatherings.”

It coped easily during a function with more than 100 guests. This floor’s separate lounge also opens to the deck and, along with the open-plan area, wraps around part of the heated swimming pool.

The deck revelling in the lush green outlook also harbours a covered outdoor entertaining area and a shower room-powder room.

Andy has been impressed by how sheltered the property is, even during big storms. The first floor’s primary suite includes an ensuite with circular bath, a walk-in wardrobe and its own balcony. Two further bedrooms, a bathroom, separate laundry and another balcony complete the floor.

The second floor houses three more bedrooms, one ensuited with a walk-in wardrobe, and two more balconies. Being within the Broadway Park community, the property also has access to gyms, tennis courts, swimming pools, a sauna and spa, paying an affordable society fee.

Andy has appreciated the area’s wonderful sense of community, which includes a social media group that functions as a neighbourhood watch.

“It’s been incredibly reassuring, especially for maintaining a safe and connected environment.” The family has moved to Australia for Andy’s work.

Bayleys agent Wei Wei Elder says: “This impressive home in a brilliant location has the peace of mind and security of time-tested construction materials.”
