An insta-famous vintage boat shed on the market for $120,000 might be the cheapest waterfront real estate in Wellington.
Tommy's Real Estate agent Dave McCarry says the iconic boat sheds in Titahi Bay, on the west coast of Porirua Harbour, north of the city, rarely come on the market as they are normally passed down through generations. The colourful row of sheds right on the water is much-admired and photographed.
"They are used for leisure these days. Not many people store boats in their sheds at all. They usually have a kitchen, telly, kayaks, bikes and fishing equipment stored in there these days.”
The single green shed McCarry is selling has a small kitchenette fitted with a fridge and a couch making it a room for relaxing between playing water sports.

People looking at the property have come up with business ideas on how to use the shed, including an Airbnb, a kayak hire and a brick and a brick-a-brac shop, McCarry says.
However, the waterfront real estate can’t be used as a business premise or as accommodation and has just a licence to occupy, giving owners a short-term right to occupy the property.
The shed on Vella St has power and water supply and is perfect for a day trip get-away, McCarry says.
“It’s a well-known destination in the Bay and people always come to take photos of the sheds.”
The median sales price in the Titahi Bay, about a half-hour from Wellinton central, is $425,000.
The best part about the property is the community of neighbouring sheds on the shore where all the are owners actively fishing and kayaking in the summer.
“It’s easy to keep an eye on your kids and good to spend a romantic evening,” McCarry says.
