A unique portfolio of four sheep and beef farms in the North Island is being presented to the market for sale, offering buyers the opportunity to acquire a sizeable stake in New Zealand’s sought-after rural sector.

The Ingleby Farms portfolio comprises more than 6,700 hectares of land with two farms located on the East Coast and two in the King Country region.

The portfolio includes the Matahiia Station (1,816.1ha) at 97 and 673 Matahiia Road in Ruatoria, Katoa Station (595.3ha) on Whakaangiangi Road in Te Araroa, Puketiti Station (3,615.9ha) at 560 Haku Road in Mahoenui, and Riverlea Station (709.4ha) at 326 Paekaka Road in Piopio.

With excellent infrastructure and well-managed farming practices, these outstanding trophy pastoral assets offer the chance to enhance the existing operations or diversify the assets.

After a strategic decision to sell at board level, the properties can be purchased individually or as a portfolio and they can all be acquired as going concerns.

Colliers Rural Sales Advisors Warwick Searle, George Cashmore, Chris Meban, and Clint Brereton have been exclusively appointed to market the properties for sale via international tender with the deadline for offers closing at 4pm on Tuesday 10 December.

Matahiia Station benefits from good contour and a favourable climate. The effective area of the property is approximately 1,190ha with grazing across 51 paddocks capable of carrying 14,500 wintered stock units.

Searle, National Director of Forestry at Colliers, says the incoming buyer can acquire a breeding and finishing block of scale while the property is also ripe for a commercial forest conversion.

“Continued operation of the breeding and finishing enterprise can be undertaken with ease. Alternatively, with significant afforestation in the region, Matahiia presents a greenfield forest conversion opportunity,” Searle says.

“The vendors have ordered seedlings for approximately 450ha of planting to commence in June 2025 and this contract can be taken over by the incoming purchaser.”

Katoa Station, which is approximately two-and-a-half hours from Gisborne, is run as a sheep and beef finishing block with excellent contour incorporating extensive river flats.

The effective area of the property is estimated to be 440ha subdivided into 44 paddocks.

Cashmore, Forestry Advisor at Colliers, says the fertile soil and excellent growing climate, as evidenced by the extent of afforestation both adjacent to Katoa and across the region, make this a compelling opportunity for a forest conversion.

“With excellent infrastructure in place on Katoa, the purchaser has the option to maintain the highly productive breeding and finishing operation,” Cashmore says.

“To supplement the farming platform, or start over, the new owner may capitalise on the exceptional growth rates and climate of the East Coast with Katoa presenting an excellent greenfield conversion opportunity.”

Puketiti Station in King Country in the Waitomo District is a renowned sheep and beef hill country station that presently runs 24,000 stock units.

It includes six dwellings, two woolsheds with good night-pen covered yards, strategically located satellite yards for sheep and cattle, and roading and laneways designed for efficient stock handling and ease of accessibility.

Meban, Rural Sales Advisor at Colliers, says the station’s scale and balanced land classes offers flexibility for buyers.

“Sustainable farming practices, such as fencing off and planting waterways, continued fertiliser programmes, and ongoing capital improvements, have positioned Puketiti Station as a well-maintained and forward-thinking operation.”

As a dedicated finishing farm, Riverlea Station stands out with its exceptional infrastructure, including well-maintained fencing, laneways, and stock handling facilities that currently account for 9,000 stock units.

Brereton, Rural Sales Advisor at Colliers, says Riverlea’s set-up enables efficient operations and offers flexibility to adapt to market fluctuations, allowing for diversified farming practices.

“Riverlea’s adaptability across different farming systems supports maximising profits in response to market volatility, providing an attractive and resilient investment,” Brereton says.

James Nilsson, National Director of Rural & Agribusiness at Colliers, says this is an offering that is not to be missed.

“This portfolio is one of the most impressive rural offerings that will be presented to the open market this year and we encourage all interested parties to reach out to us to explore their options.”
