Every time Kate and Tim and their family visited Waiheke Island they’d leave saying “oh, we really need to buy a place here.”
They mentioned this to a high-end agency they rented an island home from, who steered them towards this property whose owners were contemplating selling.
“Initially we just poked our noses over to look at it and said ‘oh it’s gorgeous, it’s divine’,” Kate says.
They did check out other Waiheke properties but none surpassed this one in their eyes so they bought 10 Tawa Street in Oneroa on Waiheke in 2015 whilst living in Hamilton.

“What struck is that it’s just so light and bright and sunny and warm; well designed with so many spaces to gravitate to,” Kate says.
“You look out to the ocean but you’re nestled in native bush with amazing birdlife. It’s so peaceful in a great location.
“You can walk down a path from the home through the property and across the road for a dip at Little Oneroa Beach, only a couple of minutes away.”

The family, whose children have now reached adulthood, had intended moving to the 1778sqm property full-time but life got in the way.
So they’ve blocked it out for spells for themselves plus used an agency to rent it out as luxury holiday accommodation achieving up to $1200 a night, for around 120 nights a year pre-Covid.
It’s a brilliant entertainer, hosting about 100 guests and a band for Tim’s 50th.
Designed to suit the sloping site, a double parking pad near the top introduces statement stairs passing the self-contained studio with bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, deck and commanding views.

The two-level home seems to float in its surrounds, embracing views and outdoors.
A zoned entertainment system, concealed heat pumps and expanses of floor-to-ceiling glass add to its ambience.
It opens out to a private inner courtyard for entertaining complete with outdoor fireplace, alongside the heated swimming pool they’ve just replaced.
Native floors grace the living and the nearby kitchen-dining room with front deck.
The recently refreshed entertainers’ kitchen includes new appliances. A powder room and laundry complete this level.

“Our master bedroom on the next level down is so beautiful and private with its own fireplace, ensuite and deck,” Kate says.
Slightly separated from the master are two further bedrooms sharing an ensuite, one of which is a bunkroom which doubles as a media room with its own deck.
Below the house, stairs lead past a stand-alone ‘gin deck’ in a bush setting, providing easy access to the short route to the beach.
Bayleys agent Mana Tahapehi, who is marketing the property, says, “This high-end home champions design and great finishing and is being sold fully furnished. It’s perfect for an executive home, holiday home or high-end visitor accommodation, especially in these days when building anew is facing its challenges.”
