A five-bedroom Auckland home designed by an award-winning architect received a $3.1 million pre-auction offer from an eager buyer within five days of it hitting the market.

The house at 25 Bonnie Brae Road, in Meadowbank, sold several days later under the hammer for $3.305 million – more than $1 million above CV. It was snapped up by an expat who was bidding over the phone.

“We had 91 groups through in the first three days and three pre-auction offers. There were five registered bidders for the auction and a flurry of bids on the day,” Gibson said.

The house was constructed and designed by noted architect David Ponting. It has two en-suites, a heated pool, a three-car garage and plenty of storage room, which was particularly attractive to families at the open homes.

“We had lots of interest from locals wanting to upsize and from Remuera [homeowners] looking for a nicer house without the double grammar zone price,” Gibson said.

Gibson said the $3.305 million sale price was “huge” for Meadowbank. “The locals can't believe it,” he said.

He said Meadowbank was “really taking off” and buyer interest was having an effect on prices.
