A multi-million-dollar bach next to one of Coromandel’s best beaches is back on the market after just 14 months.

A Coromandel oouple decided to sell the two-bedroom cottage they bought March last year for $2.85 million, because they wanted to spend more of their retirement sailing.
Richardson listing agent Simone Parr said the couple had upgraded 122 Mangakahia Drive, in Whangapoua, installing double-glazing and insulation, adding a new fireplace, and sanding the wooden floorboards.

Parr, who marketed the property the last time around, said: “It was cute before, but now it is really comfy.”
The couple also drew up plans for an extension, which would see it transformed into a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with an adjoining boat garage.
The cute Lightweight caravan had also been relocated to a private elevated spot under a carport. An outdoor shower meant guests also had their own self-contained space away from the main house.
“The improvements they’ve done have just enhanced it because the feeling is still the same.”

It was unusual for a property to come up so quickly because properties were usually extremely tightly held in that sought-after end of the beach. Most of the neighbouring baches were tightly held, with quick resales a rarity in the town.
The couple told media last year that they had been looking for somewhere quiet and private when they stumbled across the bach. “We like the vibe of the place, and it’s one of the last of the beachfront places there to still have Pōhutukawa trees. It is one of the most private places on the beach - we love that it is hidden,” they told Stuff.
Parr said the couple still loved the area, but wanted to spend more time on the water.

The property is for sale by negotiation, and is inviting offers over $3.2m. Parr said that was based on the improvements that had been carried out and recent sales in the area.
A nearby two-bedroom property plus sleepout, also on Mangakahia Drive, sold for $3.695m earlier this year. The record for the area is held by an architecturally designed three-bedroom home on Tangiora Avenue, which sold for $3.95m in January.
Parr said 122 Mangakahia Drive attracted a lot of interest when she last brought it to market, and she believed there was still strong interest in beachfront properties in the Coromandel.
“You go where you want to spend your holidays with the people you care about, don’t you? Also, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the Coromandel – you can’t get much better than that.”
