This impactful just-completed home showcasing Yakisugi charred timber cladding and overlooking Murrays Bay Reserve and the ocean, is the most premium and striking residence delivered by developer Michael Wang to date.

61A Churchill Road in Murrays Bay, North Shore, Auckland, is for sale by tender, closing February 15. The home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a double garage plus off-street parking.

Wang, owner of development company Realnorthern, says: “I actually bought this land in 2015 and the first two years of this project were all about the design. I love high-end residential and skilful interior design.

“I aim to make a name for my company, with this being the most upmarket home we’ve done so far, only a minute’s walk from the beach. It features beautiful materials, carefully considered details and a lot of customisation, with no corners whatsoever cut.”

The 362sqm home extended by 145sqm of kwila decking has a lift traversing all three levels. It sits on 521sqm of gated land, away from the road down a driveway, with parking consisting of two off-street spots plus an internal-access oversized double garage with frosted glass door.

Wang says: “I’m so proud of this home and will definitely be entering it into the next Master Builders House of the Year Awards.”

Wang worked with several architects before choosing Auckland-based architectural design practice Archi_ON to design this residence, feeling they’d meet his standards.

He has gained experience in his family’s high-end residential company overseas and is passionate about premium materials, such as the Shou Sugi Ban timber cladding most of this home.

This traditional Japanese charred timber treatment technology known for its low-maintenance durability and aesthetics was sourced from NZ-Australian supplier The Blackwood Project. It’s teamed with a ground floor clad in premium custom-mixed concrete blocks.

Structural engineers helped ensure the upper floor’s expansive living-dining-kitchen-scullery, flowing out to balconies, is truly open-plan. It invites entertaining, lapping up views over the reserve’s lushness to islands of the gulf and gorgeous sunsets.

Highlights here are wide-board oak flooring, the gorgeous Bvlgari marble kitchen island and Miele appliances. A trio of angled windows bestow light without forgoing privacy.

The ground floor flowing out to decking includes the expansive foyer, first ensuited bedroom, a recreation room and a wine cellar which fits hundreds of bottles.

The biggest expanse of decking flows off the mid-floor, where you’ll find an additional sitting room.

A dedicated hallway sees the master suite here, with a big bedroom, large walk-in wardrobe and luxurious hotel-style ensuite incorporating a freestanding bath. Two further bedrooms on this level are accompanied by another ensuite and a bathroom.

This property’s landscaping tends towards low-maintenance, favouring sizeable decks and a one-hole putting green of artificial grass. A gate not far from the front door accesses a path to the beach, through the well-maintained reserve with lawn and pohutukawa.

School zoning which includes Murrays Bay School, Murrays Bay Intermediate and Rangitoto College may also appeal.

Ray White Glenfield agent Jadyn Dixon says: “This meticulously designed, beautifully constructed property has extraordinary attention to detail. Its restrained palette of premium, high-quality materials offers a serene living experience with beautiful views.”
