An extra-large apartment behind Karangahape Road’s vibrant St Kevins Arcade is without doubt one of the most intriguing and flamboyant properties currently on offer in the Queen City.

The owner of the luxury pad – 202/26 Poynton Terrace, which overlooks leafy green Myers Park in the central city – explains that he and his wife bought two apartments off the plans for Oasis, a quality boutique development designed by Paul Brown Architects, and completed three years ago.

“That way, we were able to join them together and get all of the space that we wanted.”

He says that the home was carefully customised in order to reflect the pair’s love of quirky details and bright colours.

Boasting an extra wide double-frontage, it has three double bedrooms and three stylish bathrooms set within a generous 183sqm (approximately) floor area, which, in itself, sets the property apart from other similar offerings in the area.

Much emphasis has been put on creating spaces for relaxing – of which there are many – including beyond the open-style stainless steel kitchen with its teal joinery and Miele appliances, which segues seamlessly into the dining and living room, radiating out to the enormous, covered deck, with spa, which is used all-year-round thanks to outdoor heating.

The owner says that he and his wife wanted to introduce curves into their home for a sense of fluidity, and they also paid careful attention to choosing and positioning lights.

Also notable is the capacious walk-in wardrobe.

They’re dog owners (Oasis is pet-friendly) and say that their pet regards Myers Park as her own back yard.

“We absolutely love living here and we both believe firmly that K Road is now Auckland’s very best ‘eat street’. All the local characters make sitting in the sun with a coffee loads of fun, and although we have two car parks, we usually walk everywhere, with Queen Street just around the corner, while Ponsonby Road is an easy stroll away too.”

He says that he and his wife are spending more time at their Bethells Beach property, where another exciting project is currently underway, and no longer have the need for a large city pad. “We can assure a new owner that this is a fabulous development to live in and the other residents are all very nice. There’s generally some friendly banter when you’re waiting for the lift and it’s also nice that there is a variety of age groups, including young families.”

Angela Saunders of Ray White in Ponsonby loves the apartment herself.

“It has so much personality,” she says. “You could never create something like this retrospectively – it’s succeeded because the owners were actively involved from the start.

“It’s definitely a property for people who like to be in the middle of everything and there’s been a lot of attention paid to small but important details at Oasis, such as the carparks being suitable for big cars, which often isn’t the case.”

The apartment is priced at $2.395 million.
