When Jon and Tina were searching for a family home three years ago, they were surprised with what they ended up buying.
“We wanted something near the water, but we hadn’t ever considered Point Chevalier,” admits Jon.
21 Raymond Street in Point Chevalier, Auckland, is on the market for sale by auction on August 3. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property has an RV of $4.55 million and, according to OneRoof data, last changed hands in 2018 for $3.15m.
Jon recalls: “We were looking at Kohimarama and the eastern beaches, but a friend who lived in Point Chev encouraged us to look here too. We saw this house, instantly fell in love with it and the location, and the rest is history.”

21 Raymond Street is a home that ebbs and flows as the family inside it grows up. With four bedrooms (two with ensuites), a large family bathroom plus two separate toilets, multiple living spaces, heated pool, double garage, and an easy stroll down to popular Point Chevalier Beach, it has all the bones to facilitate wonderful family memories.
The large living area spills onto the deck outside featuring a Louvretec roof, making summer living and entertaining effortless. The streamlined kitchen complete with scullery and second dishwasher is versatile enough to cater for Christmas dinners to casual family dinners.

Sliding doors on the lounge create a homely space separate from the rest of the house. “I call it my ‘whiskey and vinyl room’. At the end of the day, I can pull the full-height frosted glass doors closed and enjoy a glass of whiskey in front of the fire while playing my favourite record – it’s magic,” Jon says.
Upstairs, the master bedroom is an oasis away from the rest of the house. “We’re only about 50 metres from the water so at night we can literally hear the water lapping below us,” Jon says.
“By day we’ve got stunning views down to the water where everyone goes sailing. On a Saturday morning it’s lovely to sit in bed with a cuppa and enjoy all the action out there.”
Ray White Pt Chevalier agent Derek von Sturmer, who is marketing the property with Jackson Tariau, says 21 Raymond Street is a wonderful, large, practical family home. But it’s the community that von Sturmer says is really special.
“I’m a little biased because I live here, but Point Chev is the best suburb in the country,” he says.

“There’s a local dads’ group which 150 guys go along to, the ladies have Wine Wednesdays, and whenever people are struggling there’s always people around to support them. I’ve had strangers knocking on my door with hot meals when we’ve needed support. It’s just such a well-connected community.”
Despite never considering Point Chev as a place to live, Jon and Tina now can’t imagine living anywhere else.
“We’ve been here three years and have absolutely loved it,” says Jon.
“But there’s a house only 100 metres up the road that we’ve always loved the look of, and we agreed that if it ever came on the market, we’d give it a go. So, we have an offer on that house and are seeing what happens. And if this one doesn’t sell, it’s no skin off our nose because we love it here so much.”
