The emergence over the past decade of Christchurch’s Moorhouse Avenue as a thriving commercial and retail city fringe precinct means development sites are now few and far between.
The shortage saw strong interest from developers and owner-occupiers last year in land at 157-163 Moorhouse Avenue, opposite the Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, which is currently under construction.
Courtney Doig, Investment Sales Broker at Colliers Christchurch, who sold that site, is now marketing 219 Moorhouse Avenue with colleague Will Franks.
The vacant land, for sale by deadline private treaty closing 6 March, is being offered on behalf of Foodstuffs South Island Properties Ltd.

Last year, Foodstuffs sold its sites in Lincoln Road and in Redcliffs, both of which attracted considerable interest and transacted unconditionally at deadline.
The 7,638sq m site has dual frontage to Moorhouse Avenue and Wilmer Street. It sits adjacent to Foodstuffs’ popular New World supermarket on the corner of Durham Street.
“Foodstuffs originally bought 2.039ha in 2014 to develop the city supermarket and car park, which it extended last year. With that now complete, the extra land is surplus to requirements,” Doig says.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for either a developer or an owner-occupier.
"Moorhouse Avenue is one of the busiest main arterials in Christchurch and is a premier location for retail, car dealerships, and businesses wanting a high-profile position.
“There’s a scarcity of available land along this arterial, especially with dual frontages and in such a favourable position.’’
Doig says over the past decade Moorhouse Avenue has changed considerably with new commercial developments answering tenant demand for increased parking ratios and convenient access to the nearby CBD.
The land on offer is zoned Commercial Central City Mixed Use, allowing for a wide range of community, commercial, and business activities.
