When current owners Duncan and Anna bought their classic weatherboard and tile 1920s Remuera home a couple of years ago, their neighbour who had lived in the street for all of his life was able to tell them a little about its history in the days before intensification came along in the suburb, making their huge 2236sqm site an absolute rarity now.

“We bought it just before the 2020 Covid lockdown and it turned out to be a great place to be because there is so much space,” says Duncan.

“It’s also very private and is set well back from the road so there’s no traffic noise and it’s all fully fenced to be dog and kid-proof.”

Anna says that their two small children, aged six and eight, just loved the huge section, which also boasts a full-size tennis court, with potential for adding a pool.

On floor two are the extensive living areas including a formal lounge with a fireplace, plus a separate dining room and a huge open-plan kitchen casual dining and family space, along with a sunroom and home office.

The sunroom and family room open to extensive decking for rest and recreation and it’s an all-year-round sun trap.

The top floor has two further double bedrooms, a family bathroom and the master suite has its own bathroom and a balcony. The interior colour scheme includes lots of white providing an attractive canvas so the next owners can add elements of their own personalities.

Duncan says that he has enjoyed doing some gardening on the site, but he’s noticed that most of the neighbours, some on similarly large sections, tend to get professionals in to weed and mow the lawns.

Alex Smith from Ray White Remuera, who is marketing the property with Ryan Dixon, says the sellers are very motivated because they’ve already purchased a new home so offers ahead of the set date of sale are welcomed.

“33 Upland Road is zoned for Mixed Housing Suburban so there are possibilities for further development in future,” he adds.

Smith says that the house is extremely liveable just as it is now, but there is scope for upgrading some of the areas.

He points out that the property is perfectly situated for excellent schools including Epsom Girls Grammar and public transport is regular and plentiful.

Meanwhile, Duncan and Anna aren’t moving far so they’ll still be patronising their local Benson Road Deli although they’ve also been enjoying coffee at newcomer Knead, on the opposite side of the street, and they believe that a Four-Square store will be opening in the neighbourhood soon.

“This is a lovely part of Remuera where everybody looks out for each other and there are lots of parks for the children to enjoy,” says Anna.

33 Upland Road in Remuera, Auckland is on the market with a set date of sale, closing May 26.
