- Kevin Austin is auctioning his Remuera penthouse, including his Porsche.
- Austin aims to travel the world and cannot take the apartment or car with him.
- The reserve will factor in the Porsche 911 Turbo S, but it will only be a small portion of what it’s worth.
An Auckland retiree is selling his Remuera penthouse apartment to travel the world and is giving away a $250,000 sports car to make a quick sale.

Kevin Austin’s three-bedroom apartment at 4/28 Victoria Avenue goes to auction next month and his Porsche 911 Turbo S will be listed as one of the chattels.
The 77-year-old told OneRoof he was planning a round-the-world trip to visit friends while he still could. “I want to go indefinitely. I’ve got friends all around the world,” he said.

The car and apartment are on the block because he can’t take them with him. “I don’t have any use for that apartment and I don’t have any use for the car,” he said.
Austin bought the Porsche – a rare cobalt blue colour – five years ago, and his penthouse five years before that.
He tried to sell the sports car last year, but when he was unable to get the price he wanted, he decided to roll into his apartment sale.

“In normal circumstances it would be worth $250,000 ... but if the property reaches the reserve, I will discount it quite a bit because I don’t want the hassle of selling it.”
Austin said he was not much of a road-tripper so the car only had 26,000km on the clock.
He joked he would probably miss the car more than the apartment. “I’ve always liked Porsches, I think it’s about the fourth Porsche I’ve had.”

That said, his penthouse boasts amazing views across the city and the other residents in the building were warm and friendly.
Austin said he had spent a bit on renovations, including adding a new kitchen and bathroom and installing double glazing and gas heating. “It’s a wonderful apartment, it has fantastic views. I would have no problem moving in there again if I had to.”
Ray White listing agent Ben Ryken said the Porsche would be sitting in the garage waiting for the new owner. “Who doesn’t want a Porsche with an apartment? Even if they sell it afterwards, it’s pretty cool to buy an apartment and get a free Porsche.”

Ryken said the reserve would not be set until just before the auction and a “little bit” of the Porsche’s value might be factored in. “But ultimately [Kevin] is going to sell both. And he’s going to meet the market for the apartment.”
Ryken said three-bedroom apartments in the suburb, especially those on Victoria Avenue, were tightly-held. He expected this to sell north of $2m.
“This is one of those vendors who is going to listen to the market and take guidance from what we get as feedback from buyers and then make a decision on auction day – or just beforehand.”
