Tui listed the two-bedroom house she built on Fontana Street, in Pāpāmoa, at the end of January. After the first open home, she received multiple offers.

“It was under contract pretty much straight away,” EVES listing agent Rachel Martin told OneRoof.

Martin, who has sold several properties for Tui, said the Chiefs-Manawa player was “stoked” with the latest result.

Martin was unable to disclose the exact sale price but did say it was slightly over the CV of $695,000.

“It sold for a good price for a two-bedder.”

The house was scooped up by a young family from the South Island. They faced strong competition from first-home buyers and investors.

Martin said people liked that it was a well-presented home in a great location.

Tui designed the house with outdoor living in mind, and had forgone a third bedroom in favour of a larger backyard. Martin’s listing highlighted that it was one of the “largest yards on the street, perfect for kicking the ball around, al fresco living or space for the fur babies to run amok”.

Martin told OneRoof there was strong demand for houses in the $700,000 price bracket, and any properties she was selling in that range had all been snapped up quickly.

“It’s in that first-home buyer bracket and investors like it as well. A lot of the homes are still under warranty.”

Martin said a three-bedroom home in the same area would have attracted even more interest.

Tui lived in the home over the Covid lockdown period, practising her tackles and tries in the backyard.

She is about to embark on her second season with the Chiefs-Manawa, in Hamilton, and recently told Womans Day that she was at a crossroads in her career – and her personal life.

She told the magazine she wanted to find a new home for her and her much-loved cat, Manawa, named after the Chiefs Manawa team she plays for in Super Rugby Aupiki.

“My mum’s in Nelson and I like to go down there sometimes to get away. But I’ve really loved my time playing for Counties Manukau, so I’m looking to base myself somewhere between Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland.”

She also wanted to be close to her Black Ferns Sevens “sisters” based at Mount Maunganui. “I want to set up a house and really make it my home – a bit of land would be nice,” she said.

Tui is regarded as one of the world’s leading sevens players and was in the national rugby sevens team that won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

She also played in the Black Ferns team that won the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2022.
