It took Mike Porter and his wife Sally Stockwell four years to find the home that provided everything the couple and their two children needed.

Their patience was rewarded by the discovery of 9 Arapito Road in Titirangi – a home that would be their retreat throughout lockdown and the many months since.

“It was a house without compromise. Usually there are a few things you have to surrender when buying a home, it wasn’t the case,” says Mike.

“The expansive grounds, oceanfront setting and incredible entertaining and work-from-home options gave us everything we were after.”

Craig Smith, who is marketing the property to be sold at auction, says, “Arapito Road is a best-kept secret, an equal to the better known prestigious streets in Titirangi.

“The seaside environment, beautiful grounds, all-day sun and remarkable dimensions are extraordinary. The home shares the road with several of the highest value homes in West Auckland, and for good reason.”

9 Arapito Road in Titirangi, Auckland, is heading to auction on February 3 next year. The five-bedroom, two-bathroom property has a 2021 RV of $2.175 million and, according to OneRoof data, last changed hands at the end of 2020 for $2.055m.

Certainly, it’s not difficult to see why the location appealed instantly to Mike and Sally. But the pair credit the home and its layout for their lifestyle just as much as its idyllic surrounds.

Five bedrooms, expansive decks and grounds, and an external studio have allowed the family enough room for creative endeavours and their young family to grow.

The studio has allowed Sally – an accomplished actor and singer – to coach budding actors, singers and songwriters in inspiring surrounds, while the campervan nestled on the specifically made platform provides further retreat for family and guests.

The home’s five bedrooms are found upstairs, including the master, which encompasses an ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and balcony overlooking the property’s grounds and peninsula, metres away. An open-plan and liberal amounts of light produce a sun-filled home with immense liveability.

“Every day sitting on the deck with a coffee, it’s like being in a Pacific resort, it’s just birdsong and lapping water. The connection to the ocean and the calm it brings, there’s nothing like it,” describes Mike.

Located at the end of a 200-metre driveway, the privacy of the property is second to none. Far enough from the city but within a village neighbourhood, Titirangi’s appeal seems endless.

“We knew we wanted to live here when we were looking. We love the aspects of the community; it has a real charm to it. Coastal walks and immersion in nature is a daily experience,” explains Mike.

“The primary school is incredible and the village has everything you need. It’s going to be incredibly hard to leave.”

With family circumstances relocating the pair and their children to Christchurch, the extraordinary family property comes to the market with possibly every box ticked, as it did for Mike and Sally.
