Josette and Peter’s elegant property at 34D Arney Crescent in Remuera, Auckland, was the ideal resolution in their pursuit to find a home that would accommodate their family of seven.

The home not only promised the space they needed, but also came with remarkable views, was newly and tastefully renovated and positioned on one of Auckland’s best streets - there wasn’t a great deal to deliberate on.

“It took us almost two years to find a home that would work for us and our blended family of five children who were all teenagers at the time,” Josette says.

“We had our brief with a number of real estate agents - we didn’t even have sea views, a pool or being in one of Auckland’s top streets on our list, so when we saw 34D Arney Crescent which had everything we wanted, and more, we arranged to view it pretty quickly.”

34D Arney Crescent is now on the market for sale by negotiation, and is being marketed by Ray White, Epsom agents Richard Thode and Rae Zhang.

With an RV of $8.1 million, the six-bedroom, three-bathroom property last changed hands in 2018 for $6.25m, according to OneRoof data.

Josette acknowledges the home was largely done before they bought, having just undergone a striking renovation by well-known interior designer, Jen Pack.

The renovation saw the installation of floor-to-ceiling European tiles in the bathrooms, Dornbracht tapware, ECC lighting and Artisan flooring throughout. Morgan Cronin was enlisted to design and build the expansive and contemporary kitchen.

Six bedrooms, three bathrooms, an office and multiple living areas have had the family distributed around the home quite nicely, Josette concedes.

“All six bedrooms are large, and two of them open out to the pool with their own bathroom, lounge and kitchenette which has been great when you have teenagers.

“Over lockdown we had all five children back at home, so we were glad they all had large bedrooms. Additionally, the home office was great for working from home for me.”

High on their initial brief was a great master bedroom. They certainly got it. “The master bedroom high on the third level has amazing sea views of Hobson Bay over to Devonport and Rangitoto Island so we get to wake up to some beautiful sunrises,” Josette says.

The home was undoubtedly built for the entertainer. The outdoor areas that border the pool are private and enjoy all-day sun, surrounded by a tropical and impeccably kept garden.

“The house is so well laid out for entertaining. All the kids can have friends over and be in different spaces to each other. We had our son’s 21st birthday party here, it worked so well with doors opening out to the pool and having an outdoor fireplace and seating areas,” Josette says.

With the children now approaching adulthood, and subsequently leaving home, their much loved property, which has served them so well, is simply too big for them. The couple are ready to downsize and hand over the home to another family to enjoy as much as they have.
