Making an unforgettable architectural impression from its exclusive and elevated St Heliers position is new cutting-edge masterpiece, Sonata.

It’s one of Auckland’s most significant developments and has just been completed.

Andrew Weipers, of Reside Projects, says he and his team simply couldn’t be more pleased about arriving at this point.

“We’re confident there is nothing else like this in Auckland, let alone New Zealand. It truly stands out and is an iconic piece of architecture. We wanted to push the boundaries of the traditional square concrete boxes you see rising around Auckland and produce a building that is as striking on the outside as it is on the inside.”

Weipers says the Reside Projects chose Architect Buchan to design Sonata after the two parties had already collaborated on another Auckland project: Horizon in nearby Mission Bay.

Of the five Sonata apartments at 20 Devore Street in St Heliers, three have sold already – thanks to popular demand and a struggle to find suitable apartment options when selling the treasured family home.

The apartments have three bedrooms, three bathrooms and three carparks, and are for sale by negotiation with a price indication of $9 million-plus.

All enjoy uninterrupted views that encompass Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island. They’re set on an elevated site on Devore Street, close to the beach and to friendly, bustling St Heliers town centre, with its various shops, cafes and restaurants.

Each Sonata apartment comprises its own exclusive floor and has been fitted out with the best quality materials available. Floor-to-ceiling north-facing windows and glass doors ensure maximum connection with the outside world. The apartments have three stylish, sun-soaked bedrooms and three, five-star hotel level European bathrooms.

The level one apartment offers open-plan living and dining, a sophisticated experience that flows directly out to north-facing alfresco entertaining, with covered and uncovered spaces and uninterrupted views to centre stage Rangitoto.

This premium residence is the only apartment in the boutique block to feature outdoor living on its own private, substantial 182sqm courtyard, ensuring families and pet-lovers can still savour the indoor-to-outdoor lifestyle.

The level two apartment enjoys breathtaking views across the water to Rangitoto. Flooded with natural light through extensive glazing, open-plan living and dining flows out to a generous balcony on which to relax or entertain, with the spacious Poliform kitchen perfect for those who love to host, boasting double Gaggenau ovens and scullery ready for the caterers.

A gallery alcove and 2.9m stud guarantees plenty of room in which to hang precious artworks.

“We partnered only with the very top companies when it came to our design and fit-out,” says Weipers.

“We’re especially proud of the ECC lighting, our Poliform kitchens and wardrobes, and the beautiful bathrooms. Everyone we worked with are experts in their field and we believe that Sonata will be one of the most prestigious addresses in Auckland.”

Listing agent Paul Neshausen, from Barfoot & Thompson, St Heliers sells a remarkable amount of property in the area, but says Sonata is definitely in a class of its own.

“It’s an architectural masterpiece and wouldn’t look out of place in the hippest of any European city, it’s set to be one of Auckland’s, New Zealand’s, most iconic properties.”

He says he really admires Reside for producing a development that is Auckland’s new landmark.

“It’s really beautiful, it celebrates in a way that allows you to appreciate the geometry of the shape. I just love the way it reflects shards of light across the harbour and shimmers on the horizon from St Heliers beach. I am really excited and proud to be marketing this special property, we needed something quite sculptural rather than the standard rectangular tower. The curved silhouettes bring the building to life and follow the natural beauty of The Bays landscape.”
